Key Responsibilities

  • Environmental Litigation: Represent clients in litigation concerning federal and state environmental laws, with a particular focus on CERCLA.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Provide counsel to clients on compliance with environmental regulations, assessing the applicability of state and federal environmental laws to client-specific issues.
  • Legal Research and Writing: Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft motions, pleadings, legal briefs, and memoranda on various environmental law topics.
  • Enforcement and Remediation: Manage the representation of clients in enforcement actions and matters involving remedial actions under federal and state laws, particularly CERCLA-related cleanups.
  • Client Advisory on Environmental Transactions: Assist clients in evaluating environmental liabilities and risks in real estate and corporate transactions.
  • Government Agency Negotiations: Represent clients in negotiations with federal and state regulatory agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and state environmental departments.
  • Client Relations: Maintain strong, ongoing relationships with clients, providing tailored legal advice and representation to meet their environmental law needs.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues to develop legal strategies for complex environmental matters, ensuring the best outcomes for clients.

Requirements

  • Experience: 2-3 years of experience in environmental law, including environmental litigation, compliance, and regulatory enforcement.
  • Legal Expertise: In-depth exposure to federal and state environmental laws, particularly CERCLA, environmental compliance, and enforcement mechanisms.
  • Litigation and Case Management: Proven ability to handle litigation matters, manage case files, and represent clients effectively in court or regulatory actions.
  • Admission: Must be admitted to practice law in the state of Massachusetts or be eligible for admission.

Education and Certifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.): Degree from an accredited law school.
  • Bar Admission: Active admission to the Massachusetts State Bar is required.
  • Certifications: Additional certifications in environmental law or related disciplines are advantageous but not required.
