Job Description:
We currently have an opportunity for an Environmental/NEPA Specialist to join our Indiana team. Responsibilities include leading investigations and research in compliance with NEPA to support INDOT and local infrastructure projects.Primary Responsibilities
  • Prepares NEPA documents for a variety of projects ranging from minor programmatic projects to complex Categorical Exclusions.
  • Performs ecological investigations and wetland delineations for project sites.
  • Analyzes field data to prepare wetland delineation reports and appropriate waterway permits (e.g., Section 401/404 permits, Construction in a Floodway permits, other state/local permits in Indiana).
  • Assists Project Managers to develop scope, schedule, and budget for assigned projects.
  • Collaborates with multi-disciplinary team to coordinate tasks and deliverables.
  • Communicates and coordinates potential risks and solutions with Project Managers.
  • Create reports and other documents related to NEPA projects, including justifications for Categorical Exclusions and Environmental Assessments.
  • Balance multiple projects staying within scope, budget, and/or schedule expectations and ensuring quality standards on all deliverables.
  • Communicate with clients, federal agencies, staff members, and vendors.

  • B.S. Degree in Environmental Science, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience conducting environmental or ecological investigations.
  • Is qualified or can become qualified for preparation of categorical exclusion type environmental documents of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) per INDOT requirements.
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS and MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of NEPA reports, assessments, permits, and other related documents.
  • Working knowledge and experience working with local, state, and federal permitting agencies. Work with Indiana is a plus.
  • Strong environmental writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a collaborative member of a project team.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel to project sites as needed.
