Job Summary: Grade IV State Certified Potable Water Treatment Operator within our environmental department that assists with maintaining environmental compliance, associated equipment/systems operation, and proper communication to appropriate personnel. The Environmental Operator will work in 3 primary areas - 1) End of Pipe (Wastewater Treatment Operator) - 2) Oily Waste Plant Operator, and the 3) State Certified Drinking Water Plant. The operator often works alone in areas managed by the Environmental Department. The operator will rotate by schedule to each of the plants. The prospective candidate will work closely with environmental maintenance and the environmental engineers/director.
Responsibilities: - Operation of State Certified Potable Water Facility
- Compliance Assurance
- Daily Laboratory Testing and Monitoring
- Calibration and monitoring of equipment
- Wastewater Treatment Monitoring
- Ensure proper treatment of wastewater Facility and all processes associated with wastewater
- Operation of sludge removal equipment
- Calibration and monitoring of equipment
- Waste Oil Treatment Plant
- Manage the treatment and removal of oily waste from the facility.
- Miscellaneous
- Monitoring of the Sewer Treatment Plant is required
- This position at times will require outside work
- Training of the facilities and operation is provided
Qualifications: - High School Diploma from an accredited institution or GED
- Candidate must have the ADEM Grade IV Drinking water license
- Must have a valid Alabama Drivers License and a good driving record
- Able to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to work Independently and in a team environment with 1 - 2 other operators on shift
- Able to drive a forklift
- Available to work alternating shift work and work overtime as needed
- Ability to work well with others
- Perform all job tasks in a safe manner and is a safety advocate
- Work effectively in 3 different areas - Oily Waste Plant; End of Pipe; Drinking Water Plant
- Monitor the operation of the sewage plant
- Candidate must be able to effectively reason and solve problems
- Ability to perform a variety of analytical tests
- Good knowledge of industrial activities - pumps, valves, pressure indicator, level indicator, etc.
- Ability to understand industrial control system displays on the computer
- Effectively identify maintenance issues and communicate appropriately
- Maintain good housekeeping in work area
