Duties

As a Environmental Protection Specialist, you will:

* Evaluate internal and external policies and programs affecting environmental protection.

* Serve as subject matter expert for environment protection policies, programs, and regulatory guidelines.

* Interpret and evaluate emerging regulatory initiatives, laws, policies, and programs that affect environmental protection to determine the impact on DOE's mission and programs.

* Develop response and comments on rulemaking/standard setting initiatives and submit recommendations to management.

* Develop information, tools, and resources that assist DOE and field site with implementing and compiling with environmental protection requirements.

* Provide technical guidance and support for environmental, natural resources, and conservation-related laws and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS GS-13: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following:

* Serving as an environmental professional evaluating and executing strategies to confirm the effectiveness of environmental compliance practices.

* Executing the agency's environmental compliance, waste remediation projects providing oversight direction and regulatory application.

* Interpreting laws, regulations, or directives governing environmental compliance, land and natural resources management, or environmental management systems.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement to receive consideration.

CTAP/ICTAP candidates: To be considered well qualified you must (1) meet all of the requirements as described in this section; and 2) be rated well-qualified , which is defined as having a score of 85 or better.
