Job Description:
The St. Louis County Department of Public Health seeks five Environmental Representatives to support the work of environmental programs in the areas of FOOD SANITATION, POOLS, TOBACCOÂ and/or other environmental public health programs.The locations of these openings are:West County Government Center- 74 Clarkson-Wilson Center Chesterfield, Missouri 63017South County Government Center- 4562 Lemay Ferry Road Saint Louis, Missouri 63129North County Government Center- Northwest Crossings 715 Northwest Plaza Dr. St. Ann, Missouri 63074The typical starting salary is $21.10 - $25.32 depending upon the candidates qualifications as well as budgetary considerations. For more information regarding this program, please visit include:Research, investigate, and evaluate potential and existing environmental health problems.Investigate complaints, conduct inspections and monitor community agencies to ensure compliance with applicable State and Federal laws, including providing notice of non-compliance.Conduct inspections, compliance audits and plan review and provide training and education in our jurisdiction for a variety of environmental health programs.Review, process, or prepare documents relating to projects, permits, applications, contracts, plans and specifications, grants, and special studies.Interpret and present research findings and prepare charts, tables, maps, and other reports.Promote a variety of programs and environmental protection projects and communicate exposures and risks to the public.Collect, process and monitor samples of water or waste for laboratory testing.Perform other duties as required or assigned.Minimum requirements include:Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, engineering, mathematics, chemistry, a natural science or a related field and two years of related experience.Possession of a valid Driver's License.SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available. The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job-related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire. The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory.
