POSITION SUMMARY The Environmental/Safety Assistant works with the Safety and Environmental team to implement NGK Ceramics, USA's environmental and safety programs to ensure responsible and compliant environmental stewardship and a safe, and incident-free work environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (The section is not intended to be an all-inclusive list and NGK Ceramics reserves the right to include other duties as assigned):
  • Communicates closely with and takes day to day direction from the Safety & Environmental Manager so that environmental and team goals are achieved.
  • Maintenance of RCRA Large Quantity Generator (LQG) legal requirements.
  • Implements procedures, programs, and assists in generating regulatory reports in compliance with the local, state, and federal
  • Assists with the record keeping, and manuals for these programs (including but not limited to): NC DEQ, EPA, and Local Emergency Planning Coordinators.
  • Regularly (daily/weekly) interacts with employees across the organization regarding implementation of company policies and application of identified corrective or preventative actions.
  • Performs retention pond and stormwater outfall inspections as required. Assists with stormwater certification.
  • Assists with internal and external auditing for ISO certifications; ISO-14001 & 45001.
  • Regularly participates in Corrective Action and Preventive Action Request assignments.
  • Assists S & E Manager and engineers with implementing and overseeing the company environmental management system.
  • Assists with the company Safety Steering Committee as required.
  • Performs regular maintenance of Safety Data Sheet inventory database.
  • Professionally interfaces with regulators during inspections; NCDEQ, NCDA&CS, NCDOL, etc.
  • Assembles data and generates EHS Management System (EHSMS) review meeting agenda. Also produces EHSMS MR meeting minutes.

  • REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university preferably in Environmental Sciences or Environmental Health; or 2 years or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with NCDEQ and EPA regulations and reporting.
  • Knowledge of ISO-14001-2015, and ISO 45001 also preferred.
  • ISO-14001-2015 Lead Auditor Certification preferred.
  • Adept with MS Office suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.)
  • Skill in operation of computers, computer software and other office equipment.
  • Familiarity with Vector - Industry Safe software preferred.
  • Required Language Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical documents and reports.
  • Ability to write reports, prepare and execute presentations to large and small groups.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers.
  • Required Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Safety shoes and glasses must be worn while on NGK property. Hearing protection is required in some areas.
