Job Description:
Job Summary: Cleans all areas of the hospital according to policies and procedures. Participates in the department's continuous quality improvement activities.Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner in order to reflect the highest integrity of the facility and the environmental services department.
  • Performs routine cleaning of patient rooms, nursing units, offices, clinical areas, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators and stairways in a clean, neat and sanitary manner.
  • Complete work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes the appropriate chemicals, supplies and cleaning techniques according to procedure and manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Uses and maintains equipment properly.
  • Observes safety precautions at all times. Uses safety signs, WET FLOOR and ropes off section of floor for cleaning where appropriate.
  • Always introduces self to patient, families and visitors.
  • Reports safety hazards as appropriate.
  • Transports trash and hazardous waste to appropriate disposal area.
  • Replenishes supplies, notifies the supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
  • Follows all infection control practices including hand hygiene techniques, standard precautions and isolation precautions.
  • Assists visitors with direction whenever requested.
  • Maintains set quality standards when performing job duties.
  • Works day, evening or night shift as assigned.
  • Ability to do work on his/her own with normal supervision.
  • Observes safety precautions at all times.
  • Able to apply commonsense understanding to carry out daily activity written or oral instruction.
  • Able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • 6 hours per week average
RequirementsProfessional Requirements:
  • Meets dress code standards; adheres to dress code of a specific unit. Appearance is neat and clean.
  • Complete annual educational requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state federal and CMS regulations.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized time system correctly.
  • Ask supervisor if needing more education on task or system.
  • Attends annual review and departmental in-services, as appropriate, and in a timely fashion.
  • Attends department staff meetings.
  • Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, vision, core values, ethics and goals of the facility as well as the focus statement of the department.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Actively participates in the department CQI activities.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety and infection control.
Regulatory Requirements:
  • High School graduate or equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum of six months housekeeping in a healthcare facility is preferred.
