The Jackson Laboratory, located in Bar Harbor, Maine, is currently seeking applicants for the position of Environmental Services Technician I.
Monday-Friday, 7 am - 3:30 pm.
Working under moderate supervision, the Environmental Services Technician position has the primary responsibility of cleaning properties owned or leased by The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) to promote the health and safety of The Jackson Laboratory's visitors and its employees. This includes traditional custodial tasks (maintaining public spaces and bathrooms) and housekeeping responsibilities (laundry and service to a conference center).
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
Clean restrooms and re-stock them with supplies.
Gather and empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers.
Sweep, mop (dry-wet), spot-clean and/or vacuum building floors.
Move/lift furniture and equipment.
Handle bio-waste and/or recycling materials.
Clean ceiling vents, horizontal/vertical surfaces, glass/mirrors, etc.
Notify management of occurring deficiencies or needs for repairs, make minor equipment adjustments/repairs, maintain equipment, re-stock/maintain supply area, special projects, etc.
Washes walls and equipment; uses ladders when required in work assignments.
Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.
Handles recycling materials.
Other duties as assigned.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Able to work under limited supervision and consistently achieve reliable results.
Self-motivated with the ability to organize time effectively, demonstrated ability to manage details and provide excellent client service skills.
Ability to understand written/verbal instructions and communicate effectively with others. Must present oneself positively through appearance, attitude, and behavior.
Able to operate cleaning equipment in a safe manner.
Able to review and briefly respond to email, or other electronic correspondences.
Ability to pass computer administered ISSA Cleaning CITS 101 and field proficiency testing within 6 months of hire.
Successful completion of JAX Environmental Services Technician training program (Department Guidelines; Basics of Cleaning and Restroom Care within one year of hire (score of 75% or higher).
Ability to understand and follow Federal, State, and JAX safety rules and regulations, including wearing personal protective equipment as task require (PPE).
The Environmental Services Technician I position is currently scheduled for day shift or second shift Monday-Friday, but is subject to working third shift, and/or weekends to meet business requirements of the Facilities Department and The Jackson Laboratory.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Valid Driver's License.
Must have the ability to walk 10,000 steps, or more, during the shift.
Ability to lift and or manipulate heavy objects up to 50 pounds,
Ability to work for extended periods of time without sitting. The job requires long periods of standing, walking, bending, or kneeling.
Pay Range: $13.78 - $21.88
