- .17 FTE - Great Scott North Canister Site in Britt, MN
- .17 FTE - Cedar Valley Canister Site in Floodwood, MN
- 1.0 FTE - Northwoods Transfer Station in Ely, MN. This position is a float position, and when not working at other sites will report to Ely.
- 0.0 FTE - This FTE provides coverage for short-term vacancies throughout the county. Assigned location will be the transfer station in closest proximity to the employee's residence.
The successful candidate will serve in a dual class role, primarily as an Environmental Services Worker I (Grade 6: $18.94 - $22.04) but will also serve intermittently as an Environmental Services Worker II (Grade 9: $20.46 - $24.02). The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2025 for Environmental Services Worker I. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $18.94 - $25.13 per hour. This position is part of the Agreement represented by Council 5 of AFSCME. Distinguishing Features of Work An employee in this class performs entry level maintenance and customer service tasks at a county solid waste facility. Duties include ensuring services are accessible during operating hours; performing routine inspections of facility and completing general site clean-up and maintenance; screening mixed solid waste and recyclables; explaining waste disposal policies/procedures and directing the public to appropriate disposal areas; collecting fees and recording daily transactions and waste material quantities, and performing waste materials handling and disposal in accordance with prescribed waste management regulations. The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff. (Environmental Services Worker I) An employee in this class performs advanced level maintenance and customer service tasks at a county solid waste facility. Duties include monitoring operations of independent solid waste contractors, leading and coordinating the work of assigned staff, screening solid waste brought to disposal sites, collecting applicable tipping fees, maintaining site operating records, directing the public to appropriate disposal units/sites, and ensuring that disposal site is operational. The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff. (Environmental Services Worker II) Work Environment These work environment factors are general in nature and may vary depending on the specific position being filled. CONSTANT: Vision; hearing; balance; and work outside.FREQUENT: Lift and carry up to 10 pounds; push/pull up to 10 pounds; grasp/handle; stand; walk; and customer/public contact. OCCASIONAL: Lift and carry up to 50 pounds; climb ladders; reach; reach above shoulder; sit; stoop/bend; and work inside. Selection ProcessMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES WORKER I (Pass/Fail):
- Successfully obtaining a Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) Type III Waste Disposal Certification within one (1) year of employment. Failure to obtain the certification by completion of probation will result in termination from the position.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES WORKER II (Pass/Fail):
- One (1) year of full-time paid verifiable experience as a licensed solid waste facility attendant; OR two (2) years full-time paid verifiable experience in customer service, maintenance, or a related field; OR equivalent training and experience as determined by the Director of Human Resources.
- Successfully obtaining a Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) Type III Waste Disposal Certification within one (1) year of employment. Failure to obtain the certification by completion of probation will result in termination from the position.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
