Specific Responsibilities:
This position performs general environmental health duties working under the supervision of the Environmental Manager. The duties of this position require skill to apply the directions to accomplish all job functions and the ability to apply a general understanding of scientific principles. Duties require travel throughout the Washington and Holmes County areas.
Water Program: Plan review, approval, and inspections of limited use and registered public water systems within department and regulatory guidelines. Coordinates and performs S.U.P.E.R Act water program activities with the Florida Department of Health. Responsible for collecting water samples, interpreting test results, and enforcement actions as required for Limited Use and SUPERACT Program regulations, process, and policy.
Facilities: Plan review, approval, and inspections of community health programs (group care, mobile home parks, food service, biomedical waste, tanning salons, tattoo, and body piercing parlors) within department and regulatory guidelines. Performs inspections according to the provisions set forth in applicable rules and assures compliance with the standards set forth by these rules relative to schools, mobile home parks, assisted living facilities, tanning bed facilities, biomedical waste generators, and tatoo and body piercing parlors. Food service responsibilities are included when applicable.
Sanitary Nuisances: Conducts investigations, evaluates for validity, and initiates action, according to departmental and regulatory guidelines, to eliminate the problem in all Environmental Health program areas under the responsibility of this department as stipulated by Florida Statute 386.
Telephone and Public Contact: Responsible for providing information to the public concerning the rules and laws governing all environmental health program. Forward calls to appropriate staff or agency as necessary. Advises state and Environmental Manager of pertinent information.
Rabies program: Responsible for processing animal bites reports. Investigates these reported exposures and makes the appropriate response. Notifies the laboratory of specific shipments. Completes required paper and ReHost database reporting.
Onsite Sewage Treatment and Disposal System: Responsible for assisting applicants in completing and submitting septic tank application packages and ensures all required documents are complete and adhere to deadline requirements. Reviews OSTDS applications and performs site evaluations and issues permits for new systems, modifications, and repairs in accordance with EH Manual 150-4 requirements during the performance evaluation cycle. Performs inspections of constructed septic tank systems for compliance with permit specifications during normal business hours.
Performs other duties as assigned such as disaster response, timely entry and certification of EARS entered into the Health Management System's (HMS), and completing DOH required and technical trainings needed to maintain certification as a EH Professional .

Minimum Qualifications:
+ Required - A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the physical or natural sciences or engineering and two years of professional experience in environmental protection, regulation, or health; one of the physical or natural sciences; or engineering.
+ Preferred - - Certification in On-site Treatment and Disposal Systems (OSTDS) and Food Hygiene Program; if not, must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
+ Valid driver's license
