Position Overview
The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of environmental compliance at the facility with all applicable regulations and permits through all environmental programs (air, water, and waste). In addition to maintaining compliance, this position is integral in advancing the environmental program in the facility, accomplished by developing strong working relationships with both management and hourly personnel. This position will require a blend of field work and office work. This individual will report to the Environmental Manager.
Responsibilities• Understand and apply comprehensive knowledge of all regulations relevant to the facility. • Conduct required inspections according to regulations for air, water, and waste streams. • Manage and maintain required records to demonstrate environmental compliance. • Work with department managers by giving advice and direction to ensure environmental regulations are met. • Manage the mill's waste program. • Monitor CEM data and respond to data quality issues. • Facilitate required training for employees. • Understand the different mill processes, and constructively participate with production and maintenance personnel. • Assist, compile, and drive reports to finalization for submission to regulatory agencies.
Qualifications• Associates degree as an Environmental Engineering Technician, Process Technician or related field with 5 years of relevant experience, or Bachelors degree in Environmental Engineering or related science degree with 3 - 5 years of relevant experience. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • In addition to formal education, must apply practical knowledge of mechanics, chemistry, and electronics. • Must be able to work in a team format, coordinating with personnel in all departments and management. • Must be attentive to details and timelines. • Must continually learn new processes, equipment and skills. • Must be a self-starter; a results-oriented personality is essential • Must be capable of providing assistance where required, exercising independent judgement. • Must be willing to work in dirty, noisy, hot, humid environments.
