Job Summary:
PIC Group is seeking a qualified Environmental Specialist for a contract position in Houston, TX, supporting the power and energy sector. The Environmental Specialist will ensure compliance with environmental regulations, conduct assessments, and implement initiatives to minimize environmental impact while promoting sustainable practices. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate environmental considerations into project execution, staying informed of evolving regulations, and evaluating the impact of traditional and renewable energy projects, such as coal, natural gas, solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. The Environmental Specialist will play a crucial role in fostering sustainability and regulatory adherence across all energy-related operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Conduct environmental assessments and compliance audits for power generation projects, including renewable energy installations (solar, wind, hydro) and traditional energy sources (coal, natural gas).
* Evaluate the environmental impact of energy projects and develop strategies to mitigate risks and enhance sustainability.
* Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies, ensuring adherence to environmental laws and standards (e.g., NEPA, CWA).
* Collaborate with engineering, operations, and project management teams to integrate environmental considerations into project planning and execution.
* Monitor environmental performance metrics and recommend improvements to meet organizational sustainability goals.
* Engage with community stakeholders, including local governments and advocacy groups, to promote transparency and awareness of environmental initiatives.
* Stay updated on emerging environmental regulations, industry trends, and best practices related to the energy sector.
* Assist in the development of environmental management systems (EMS) tailored to energy operations and projects.
* Provide training and resources to staff on environmental compliance, best practices, and sustainability initiatives specific to the power and energy sector.
* Support the preparation of grant proposals and funding applications for environmental projects in energy efficiency and renewable energy.
* Monitor plant air and water emissions from outside the control room and take steps to maintain within acceptable limits notifying Control Room Operator of abnormal situations.
Job Requirements:
* Understanding of TCQ a must
* Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations affecting the energy industry (e.g. NEPA, CWA, Clean Air Act).
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on data analysis related to environmental impact.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and environmental data management software (e.g., GIS, energy modeling tools).
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
* Experience with sustainability reporting frameworks relevant to the energy sector (e.g., GRI, CDP).
* Familiarity with renewable energy technologies and their environmental impacts.
Education / Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, Energy Management, or related field
* 2+ years of experience in environmental compliance and assessment within the power and energy sector
