Current MES Employees who are interested in applying for this position must visit the Internal MES Careers Page by going to their Workday Dashboard, clicking on the Career icon and selecting Find Jobs.This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading team that provides environmental solutions to the public and private sectors throughout the State of Maryland.Job Description:Maryland Environmental Service (MES) has an opening for a full time Environmental Specialist (ES) or Senior Environmental Specialist (SES) in the Environmental Dredging and Restoration Division located at our Headquarters facility in Millersville, MD. Classification offered is commensurate with experience. Primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to contract and task management; writing and formatting technical reports, meeting summaries, and other project related information; assisting with data review and compilation; permitting support; outreach activities; and occasional field work. The ES/SES may be required to drive to field sites or labs to fulfill sampling/monitoring requirements.ES: Assists with the preparation of technical documents and supports development and tracking of contract management documents. Provides scientific and technical support. Assists with reviewing and compiling comments on reports and data submitted by subcontractors. Attends project related meetings and prepares meeting summaries. Assists with environmental documentation and permitting technical services. Provides procurement and contract management support.SES: Assists in the development of proposals, scopes of work and cost estimates and management of some procurements. Prepares and reviews technical documents and permitting documentation. Assists in the coordination and planning of project tasks. Provides scientific, technical, and planning support. May coordinate with one or all the following, clients, contractors, vendors and regulatory officials. Provides meeting coordination, presentation development, facilitation, and summary services if required. Assists with monitoring compliance of environmental operation, construction and monitoring activities with Federal, State, and local permit and regulatory requirements when required. May supervise technical staff.Estimated Pay Range:ES: $48,301.85 - $57,000.00SES: $53,131.16 - $64,000.00Benefits:

Minimum Requirements:For an ES: a bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, ecology, biology, chemistry, geology or a related field from an accredited college or university, plus one year of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management.For an SES: a minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management in addition to the education requirement for an ES. One year of experience must have included responsibility managing environmental projects and providing leadership to other professional and technical staff. An applicable advanced education degree may be substituted for up to two years of experience. Applicants should have a valid driver's license with less than 5 points.Preferred skills but not required: Firsthand experience with preparing scientific and environmental technical reports and permit applications, natural resource planning, and task management. Strong verbal and technical skills, knowledge and experience with financial management, and fluency in MS Office Suite, including PowerPoint. Additional experience with field-level environmental monitoring, data collection, data management, and analysis as well as public outreach experience is also beneficial.This position will be open until filled.Maryland Environmental Service is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
