DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In the role of Environmental Trainee, the selected candidate will engage in a comprehensive one-year training program that combines formal education with practical, on-the-job experience to acquire the skills necessary for the position of Water Quality Specialist. This individual will be responsible for conducting regular inspections, addressing complaints, notifying relevant parties of any violations, collecting water samples, and ensuring compliance with the laws, regulations, and acts governing the Clean Water Program in the Northcentral Region. The incumbent will adhere to established standard operating procedures while executing all job-related tasks and will comply with all telework policies, procedures, and specific directives from management. Participation in training sessions pertinent to job responsibilities is expected, which will enhance the individual's understanding of sewage and industrial waste treatment processes, departmental policies, regulations, spill prevention and response protocols, and other relevant subjects that contribute to improved job performance. The role involves inspecting sewage collection systems, as well as sewage and industrial wastewater treatment facilities, to verify that operations align with permit requirements. The individual will also review operational reports, compliance schedules, process control plans, and facility-specific standard operating procedures, along with any other documentation mandated by permits, regulations, or enforceable agreements. Additionally, the trainee will collect both raw and treated wastewater samples, as well as samples from receiving streams, and perform field tests, including measurements of pH and chlorine levels. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
- This position may require travel.
- Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,890 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
- A bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training. .
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
