Location: Florence,AL, USA
This position is responsible for assisting with the repairs and maintenance of vehicles and equipment assigned to the Park & Recreation Department. Job duties include minor repairs to department vehicles and equipment, daily maintenance of equipment, assisting Senior Mechanic with major repairs to department vehicles and equipment, and other job duties that are assigned as needed. This position is supervised and reports directly to the Senior Mechanic.
* Responsible for minor repairs and maintenance of vehicles assigned to the department in accordance with department, city, county, state, and federal guidelines and regulations.
* Examine equipment for defects/flaws, and use the right techniques for testing, diagnosing, and evaluating equipment.
* Performs minor repairs to vehicles and equipment assigned to the Park & Recreation Department.
* Make sure the shop is kept clean, safe, and in an orderly manner.
* Road test equipment to certify proper operating condition.
* When necessary, collaborates with Senior Mechanic to ensure that the equipment is receiving the best possible preventative maintenance.
* May be asked to make suggestions and arrange for contract repair work.
* Provides road service for vehicles/equipment on the road.
* Represents the Park & Recreation Department and the City of Florence in a diplomatic, tactful, and courteous manner.
* Reports problems to the Senior Mechanic.
* Shifts may vary according to the needs of the city.
* Employee may be required to perform other assigned job duties as needed
* High School Diploma or GED Certificate
* Minimum of 3 years' experience in repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment including diesel engines and hydraulic systems, with the city of Florence; or, with an employer in a related field having similar vehicles and equipment.
* Valid driver's license.
* Knowledge and understanding of hydraulic systems, gasoline and diesel engine mechanics, and other specialized equipment utilized in the department.
* Assist the Senior Mechanic with major/difficult repairs.
* Ability to troubleshoot and repair minor mechanical problems.
* Ability to learn department rules and regulations.
* Knowledge of the city of Florence streets.
* Knowledge of traffic safety rules and regulations.
* Knowledge of safety rules and regulations that are relevant when working around vehicles and equipment.
* Ability to follow instructions and get along with coworkers and customers.
* Thorough knowledge of routine preventative maintenance for vehicles assigned to the department.
* Ability to read, write, and understand material related to the repair and maintenance of vehicles.
* Ability to work some nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
Supervision:
Employee works independently without direct supervision. General supervision by the Senior Mechanic.

* Ability to work under stressful situations.
* Ability to work with constant exposure to heat, cold, dampness, noise, vibration, and other disagreeable work conditions.
* Ability to stoop, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis (more on occasion).
* Ability to work in and around moving traffic.
Equipment/Tools Used:
Mechanic tools including diagnostic equipment.
