This position operates heavy equipment in support of the installation, maintenance, and repair of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Salary Depends on Qualifications Major Duties Operates a backhoe, trackhoe, rubber tire loader, tandem dump truck, tractor and bush hog, and other equipment in the construction and repair of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems; inspects equipment. Installs, repairs and maintains water meters. Transports equipment to and from the job site. Performs maintenance of specialized and heavy equipment. Installs water and sewer lines and mains for customers and businesses. Repairs water and sewer main breaks. Installs, repairs, and flushes fire hydrants. Locates water and sewer lines. Patches roadways and sidewalks at completion of task; repairs landscaping. Assists Crew Leader with project management and safety of crew. Performs other related duties as assigned. After-hours work is required as necessary during emergencies, inclement weather and other times as necessary. Knowledge and Qualifications Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
