POSITION SUMMARY

To operate equipment safely and efficiently as assigned, while meeting production goals and quality standards while mentoring apprentices and operator techs, who are working with you, to grow in their roles and operating capabilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Safely operate equipment, without incident while maintaining daily inspection logs as well as daily preventative maintenance checks

* Efficiently / effectively operate equipment to increase engagement and decrease downtime, while properly communicating with the project Supervision on any issues that are encountered throughout the day

* Work hand in hand with other team members to encourage their growth and the overall progress towards the daily, weekly, monthly and overall project goals

* Understand how to utilize the assigned technology to operate more efficiently, reduce cycle times as well as overall grading durations and insure proper drainage at all times

* Capable of understanding soil and compaction requirements and communicating with the project Supervision what is being experienced in the field related to soil types

* Performs all assigned tasks, responsibilities, and related work processes in the safest possible manner, always ensuring that a safe, accident/incident-free work environment is maintained for all coworkers, clients, suppliers, etc. at all times.

Education and/or Experience

* High School Diploma/GED - Preferred

* Vocational or technical training/work experience in grading/site development/construction - Preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

* Read and comprehend all civil plans

* Safely lead crews for quality and production

* The ability to work with and troubleshoot machine control systems

* Complete the operator skills test for motorgrader

* Implementing work tasks within a work team

* Knowledge of soil conditions and earthmoving

* Measuring and calculating

* Problem-solving, troubleshooting, and maintenance reasoning

* Communicating with supervisor and team members

* Implementing site safety and work-task plans

* Recognizing and correcting job site hazards

* Making judgments and decisions at task level

* Listening, speaking, reading and writing at a basic level

* Thinking logically and critically

* Seeing and interpreting details close-up and far away

* Focusing consistently on Safety, Quality, Production, and Innovation

* Manual dexterity

* Mechanical reasoning

Working Conditions

* Outdoors - frequently

* Indoors - rarely

* Temperatures - seasonal

* Walking and riding on uneven terrain - frequently

* Personal Protective Equipment - at all times

* Multi-activity worksites - frequently

* Traveling/out of town - frequently

* 40 to 60-hour work week - frequently

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

* Valid driver's license - preferred

* OSHA 10-Hour Certification - Required; training provided by Wayne Brothers

* First Aid/CPR - desirable

* All-terrain material handler certification -desirable

* Aerial lift certification - desirable

* WB Craft Training and certifications through Level I (Grading) - preferred

* Trenching/excavation certification - preferred

Physical Demands

* Lifting, carrying or moving up to 25 pounds

* Frequent steering, riding, bouncing

* Sitting for long periods of time on heavy equipment

* Focus concentration, attention to detail
