Interacts and communicates with departmental supervisors and leaders, personnel, and the public during daily assignments. Work involves assisting Stormwater crews with system maintenance and repair activities throughout the department. Work is performed under general supervision with moderate latitude in the use of initiative. Position exercises some independent judgment in accordance with defined policies, procedures, and techniques. Reports to Stormwater Supervisor.Essential Job Functions The essential functions listed are typical examples of work performed by positions in this job classification and are not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, tasks, and responsibilities. Staff may also perform other duties as assigned. Safely operates a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment, including but not limited to bulldozers, graders, cranes, excavators, jet vac trucks. May operate 16/18-wheel tractor trailers; or perform master level trades duties.Excavates for the installation of new storm drainage construction and concrete construction, but not limited to the construction of remodeling. Sets up MOT for traffic control, installing, storm drain infrastructures, cement work, installation of pipes for storm water runoff.Operates a jet vac truck and power rodder in order to clean and remove debris from stormwater inlets and underground pipes.Excavates to install pipes and seal them by placing wet hydraulic cement.Regrades surrounding earth at completion of repair or installation.Operates bulldozers and skip loaders for grading, moving trees, removing debris in normal working conditions and emergency situations.Repairs street signs, potholes, manholes, and repairs guard rails as necessary.Reports blueprints, prepares layouts, coordinates materials, calculates grades, shoots elevations, and sets up instruments.Exercises care and safety in the use of equipment required to complete assigned tasks. Performs routine maintenance on equipment. Performs sidewalk removal and installation and re-grades swales throughout the City.Operates and maintains aforementioned vehicles and heavy equipment, mechanics tools, power tools, hand tools, and two-way radios.Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits a variety of documents such as blueprints, mileage reports, work orders, safety reports and repair reports.Requires response to after-hours emergency calls and some Saturday work.Interacts and communicates with Public Services supervisors and employees and the public.Work may include light and heavy physical effort when not operating equipment or driving equipment to and from its operation at the work site. It may also include assisting construction/maintenance crews with assigned tasks or acting as lead employee in the absence of assigned supervisor on maintenance/construction jobs. Receives, reviews, prepares, and/or submits a variety of documents such as blueprints, mileage reports, work orders, safety reports and repair reports.Adheres to all City and public health and safety guidelines and protocols; performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures.Maintains quality communication and interaction with all City personnel, representatives from external organizations, and the public to maintain good will toward the city and to project a positive City image.Demonstrates behaviors that support the City's Vision and Values. Maintains on-call work availability as assigned, to prepare for, respond to, or recover from a hurricane, tropical weather event, or other emergency to meet the city's obligation to remain operational before, during, and after the event; duties assigned may or may not be typical of the job and are contingent upon the needs of the city and the residents because of the event.Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service, or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.Pay and Bargaining StatusThis is a non-exempt position pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is within the blue collar bargaining unit covered by the City of Tamarac and Federation of Public Employees (FPE) collective bargaining agreement. This position is paid on an hourly basis, issued bi-weekly, and subject to overtime pay in accordance with the terms of the current City of Tamarac and FPE collective bargaining agreement. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by at least two (2 years of experience operating heavy machinery in public or private construction or maintenance work; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience. Required Certifications and LicensesMust possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) N endorsement and the ability to drive a city owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required (and sponsored) according to job duties and responsibilities. Must possess or obtain within six (6) months of hire, Trench Safety certification.Must possess or obtain within twelve (12) months of hire, Confined space certification and Stormwater B or FSA Stormwater Operator Certification - Level 2.NOTE: Job description, minimum qualifications, and the standards required to perform the essential functions are detailed in the official job description.
