This position is devoted to providing maintenance and equipment operation for the Center's compost and mulch production and Wilders Grove Landfill. The optimal candidate will have a proven knowledge in the operation of composting operations and will possess an understanding of the importance of organics waste reduction and recycling. Previous equipment operating experience in field-based equipment operation, reporting, and customer service is essential for this position. The EOIII is under the general supervision of the Operations Crew Supervisor. This position will be required to work rotating Saturdays. In addition, this position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides specialized, skilled general maintenance in support of the Yard Waste Center and Wilders Grove Landfill or maintenance function.
  • Work includes repairing and maintaining buildings and/or grounds; preventative maintenance and/or construction activities for the Yard Waste Center and Wilders Grove Landfill.
  • Performs daily maintenance and operation inspections on all operated equipment.
  • Prepares and submits inspection records and reports.
  • Use appropriate in-vehicle technology to safely complete daily work assignments.
  • Addresses issues and concerns of internal and external customers.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of work area, tools, and equipment; and following safety
  • policies and procedures.
  • In the absence of the Scale Operator, the EOIII will serve provide back-up support for
  • the Scale House operations.
  • Safely operates heavy equipment, (including but not limited to 45 ton articulated off road dump trucks, rubber tire loaders, track loaders, water truck, grinders (tub & horizontal), compost screeners, windrow turner, and others) to dump, turn, water, monitor and otherwise efficiently maintain a large windrow composting system.
  • Assist Crew Supervisor and Crew Leader with developing and training new employees for promotional opportunities who display or express the desire to assume higher level operating roles in the department.
Typical Qualifications Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GED and four years of assignment-related equipment operation/driving experience or formal trades experience.ORAn equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.Licensing/Certifications
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
