Equipment Operator/Skilled LaborerJob descriptionPosition Purpose:The Equipment Operator/Skilled Laborer is responsible for operating company owned machinery in a safe and effective manner. Capable of operating hydraulic excavators and skid steers. Performs various manual labor tasks requiring some specialized skills to assist in the work of skilled tradesmen and craftsmen such as carpenters, plumbers, painters, mason, etc. Responsibilities and Tasks:
  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavator and skid steer; includes running, maneuvering, navigating, and driving
  • Monitor information: includes materials, events, and environment; detects and assesses problems associated with heavy equipment
  • Bring problems to the attention of the Project Manager and Superintendent immediately
  • Checks fluid levels, tires, lights, and other controls for safe operation
  • Load and unload equipment or materialsboth manually and with the use of equipment
  • Monitor various gauges during operation of equipment
  • Must keep equipment in a clean and orderly condition
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required
  • Other tasks as asked by Project Manager or Superintendent

  • Thorough operational knowledge and skills of trucks and related equipment to be operated
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions
  • Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear; must be able to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 75 pounds without assistance; to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping; and to stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time
  • May require sitting for extended periods of time
  • Able to climb in and out of equipment 3-4 steps (elevated 4+ feet into cab)
  • Must have a clean driving record
  • Minimum 18-year age requirement
  • CDL License preferred or willing to get CDL License
  • Ability to work overtime if needed
  • Ability to stand for long durations and work in hot and cold temperatures
  • Ability to commute to job sites in and out of state
  • Concrete work or footing work preferred
