Salary : $45,635.20 - $56,014.40 AnnuallyLocation : Ohio 44118, OHJob Type: Full TimeJob Number: 1023Department: Public WorksOpening Date: 10/21/2024Closing Date: 10/28/2024 11:59 PM EasternDescriptionINTERNAL POSTING ONLYIncumbents operate light- and heavy-duty construction and maintenance equipment in the maintenance, repair, and alteration of City streets, drainage, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and other facilities. Incumbents also perform semi-skilled and unskilled manual labor, and other projects as assigned. Examples of Duties
  • Performs a variety of specialized maintenance work in assigned area of responsibility
  • Monitors inventory and supply levels; recommends replenishment of materials
  • Operates a variety of trucks including light- and heavy-duty equipment in the construction, maintenance, and operation of all City improvements, facilities, and other projects
  • Operates construction equipment, including street sweepers, loaders, and various trucks and backhoes for the Public Works Department and/or other City departments
  • Checks oil, lubricants, water levels, tires, batteries, and other related equipment prior to each use
  • Completes a variety of logs, documents, and/or simple reports regarding quantity of materials handled, equipment operations, miles driven, fuel and oil used, and/or other related information
  • Report for emergency overtime including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
Typical Qualifications Knowledge of:
  • Applicable State and local vehicle ordinances
  • Basic construction practices
  • Equipment, tools, materials, and methods of assigned specialty area
  • Occupational hazards and related safety precautions
  • Maintenance equipment
  • Hand and power tools
  • Safe work practices
  • Operation and servicing of medium and heavy equipment
  • Traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to the safe use and operation of assigned equipment
  • OSHA requirements as they pertain to equipment operation
Skill in:
  • Performing manual labor
  • Maintaining small to medium-sized equipment and trucks
  • Performing semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities
  • Operating small hand and power tools and other related equipment
Ability to:
  • Understand and execute oral and written directions
  • Efficiently and safely operate assigned equipment
  • Attach auxiliary pieces of equipment to power-driven equipment
  • Operate a variety of heavy and light, power-driven equipment (gas and diesel)
  • Follow safe operating procedures
  • Assist in identifying equipment needs for each assigned project
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment; report the need for major repairs
  • Perform semi-skilled and skilled construction and maintenance tasks such as patching and paving, and loading and unloading
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, and operating and maintenance instructions
  • Work a variety of shifts to include nights, weekends and holidays (11p-7a Jan- April as needed)
  • Complete forms, work orders, and other in-house procedural and administrative documentation
  • Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or GED, three years' experience in snow/ice removal and loose leaf collection and two years of experience driving various types of vehicles and operating heavy-duty construction and maintenance equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.CERTIFICATION/ LICENSURE:Must have at the time of hire and be able to maintain a valid Ohio commercial driver's license.
