Job Description:

Completion of the eighth grade; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience.

A Valid Florida Driver License is required and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets the requirements of Alachua County policy #6-7; Motor Vehicle Records will be reviewed prior to employment. If, in the past 24-month period, the applicants Motor Vehicle Record has more than three (3) moving traffic infractions or three (3) or more at fault motor vehicle accidents (or combination of both and /or a conviction/pending charge for driving under the influence) or is in violation of any standard mandated by Federal or State Law or Regulation, the minimum qualifications are not met for the position.

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen & physical examination and successful completion of all applicable background checks pre-hire and ongoing are required.

This is semi-skilled work operating a variety of power and motorized equipment for the Alachua County Solid Waste and Recovery Department, Transfer Station Facility.

An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various types of light or medium equipment, and performing manual tasks that contribute to the cleanliness of the tunnel area of the Transfer Station.

Work is performed under the direction of a higher level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

This is an emergency essential classification. Upon declaration of a disaster and/or emergency, all employees in this classification are required to work.

Exudes a positive customer service focus.

Operates tractor mounted broom.

Operates farm tractor mounted front-end loader/back-hoe.

Performs pre-operation checks of equipment; performs routine service on equipment to maintain good working order.

Performs manual tasks and labor while not operating equipment as required.

Responsible for litter control throughout the Transfer Station complex. Polices the recycle recovery area.

Inspects loads of materials and records specific loads for DEP records. Monitors loads for hazardous materials.

Completes minor repair work on equipment.

Drives a County and/or personal vehicle to perform duties.

Performs the duties listed, as well as those assigned, with professionalism and a sense of urgency.

Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions in the operation of light or medium equipment.

Knowledge of the operating characteristics of light or medium equipment.

Ability to service types of light or medium equipment and to make minor repairs.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow workers.

Ability to deal with the general public with tact and patience.

Ability to effectively express ideas, both in written and verbal communications.

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
