Yard), and one at the Resource Recovery Facility. The eligibility list established from this recruitment may be used to fill other Equipment Service Worker vacancies during the life of the list. The eligibility list established from this recruitment is valid for up to one year from the date established unless the list is extended or abolished by the Human Resources Director.Under supervision, performs routine servicing, minor mechanical repairs and simple diagnosis on a variety of gasoline and diesel powered equipment, vehicles and machines, and plant equipment and buildings; including but not limited to automobiles, trucks, tractors, street sweepers, forklifts, loaders, construction equipment, baler and conveyor lines and maintenance equipment and tools, depending on assignment; performs related work as required.The Fleet Maintenance division is located at the Corp Yard main garage bay at 1125 River St. To learn more, go to The Resource Recovery Facility is located at Dimeo Lane, which intersects Highway 1 about 3 miles north of City limits.     Typical Duties(May include, but are not limited to, those duties listed below.)
    • Performs a variety of maintenance tasks and minor mechanical repairs on vehicles, tools and equipment, including engine tune-ups, oil changes, lubrications, adjusting and/or relining brakes, minor electrical repairs, and routine parts replacement.
    • Operates electronic diagnostic equipment to diagnose and repair mechanical, electronic, and electrical problems.
    • Inspects vehicles, tools and equipment and performs required maintenance on a scheduled basis.
    • Inflates and rotates tires.
    • Replaces and installs accessories, such as mirrors, wipers, and lamps.
    • Completes maintenance forms and service records.
    • Transports parts and equipment.
    • Lubricates and adjusts tracking of conveyor belts.
    • Assists equipment mechanics with heavy repair work.
    • Performs general housekeeping duties in garage and equipment yard or recycling center.
    • Assists with stocking and ordering of parts.
    • Reports more complex repairs to supervisors for appropriate attention.
    • Assist with occasional light building maintenance.
    • Completes regular inventories of necessary materials, tools, and equipment, such as fuel storage tanks, oil, transmission fluid, coolant and grease
    • Completes regular fuel island inspections, such as checking fuel levels, nozzles, and pumps, and performs required clean-up maintenance.
    • Picks up and delivers vehicles for service.
    • Performs or assists with basic welding and fabrication projects.
    • May be required to perform duties related to confined space entry and rescue.
    • Performs other related duties that may be reasonably expected as part of this classification.
    WORKING CONDITIONSPosition requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing up to 60 pounds is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, heat, cold, dust, and dirt. May use chemicals and cleaning products which may expose the employee to fumes, dust, and air contaminants. May be exposed to biohazards and/or hazardous chemicals. The nature of the work may also require the incumbent to climb ladders, use power tools and noise producing tools and equipment, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and enter confined spaces. Additionally, off-site travel and/or attendance at multi-day off-site training sessions may be required. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.Minimum QualificationsThe minimum qualifications for Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities are the following:Education and Experience:
    • High School diploma or equivalent, and
    • One (1) year of experience performing routine servicing and maintenance of automobiles and/or construction equipment.
    Knowledge:
    • Basic methods of servicing automobiles, trucks, or construction equipment.
    • Tools and equipment used for servicing and repair of vehicles or construction equipment.
    • Lubricants, fuels, and their proper use.
    • Safe work practices.
    Abilities:
    • Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
    • Read and understand vehicle service manuals.
    • Attend classes and trainings to maintain journey level skills.
    • Maintain basic vehicle and equipment service records.
    • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
    • Drive a variety of vehicles, including automobiles, light and heavy trucks, and construction equipment.
    • Operate forklifts, loaders, baler, and recycling sorting system.
    Licenses and Certificates:
    • Possession and continued maintenance of a valid California Class C driver's license.
    • Possession and continued maintenance of a valid California Class A or B driver's license by the end of the probationary period.
    Tools:
    • Possession of a basic set of standard and metric mechanic's tools, up to 3/4 or 19 mm.
    OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Willingness to work alternate shifts as assigned.

    • Completion of a certified training program in automotive mechanics, automotive technology, or a related field from a vocational school, trade school, or college.

    SALARY - This classification belongs to the Service bargaining unit and has a nine-step salary range. All classifications in this bargaining unit add an additional wage Step J on 7/14/18 by MOU agreement. Appointment may be made commensurate with experience.
