Position supports vehicles and equipment at city Landfills. Essential Functions
- Perform all the duties of an equipment technician helper
- Repair autos, trucks, heavy and specialized equipment requiring minor and major adjustments to ensure proper levels of performance
- Perform daily fluid checks, and lubrication of equipment, fuel and fuel additives as needed.
- Perform minor repairs, such as replacement of hydraulic hoses
- Repair or replace electrical components
- Perform battery maintenance with the knowledge of 12v and 24v systems
- Use of welding equipment to make repairs or fabricate metal parts
- Perform related duties as directed.
Qualifications Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional two years of experience in automotive mechanics; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:Physical Exam RequiredValid CDL class B with Haz-mat endorsement or ability to obtain within 3 months Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of:
- Methods, techniques, and tools used in automotive repair.
Ability to:
- Perform in-depth diagnostics on vehicles.
- Operate a variety of automotive diagnostic equipment.
- Meet the certification and competency standards established for the position.
- Communicate effectively with others.
- Use troubleshooting skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Frequently walk and stand during the shift
- Frequently climb ladders, stairs and inclined surfaces
- Frequently bend and kneel during the shift
- Push objects away from oneself
- Continuously flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees
- Occasionally move body in a crawling motion in order to repair vehicles
- Continuously rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing
- Frequently reach above, at or below shoulder height
- Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle
