ED Tech I (CNA or EMT):

Under the direction of nursing personnel, the ED Tech I provides patient care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. Duties include but are not limited to administering and/or assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs); collection of vital signs; documenting intake & output; fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures; performing urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, specimen collection using approved techniques and procedures, and/or point of care testing as requested; assisting in the preparation and transport of non-cardiac monitored patients for tests, procedures, and admission to inpatient units; collection of clinical data and reporting changes in patient conditions to the nurse; documentation of all patient care activities with correct medical terminology and approved abbreviations; acting as a patient safety sitter when necessary; assisting with setup, maintenance, and stocking of equipment and supplies; performing EKGs; providing spiritual, emotional, physical, psychosocial, and culturally-competent care; participating in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance; and participating in professional development opportunities.

Under the direction of nursing personnel, the ED Tech I provides patient care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients.

Must be a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT), Certified Nursing Assistant in the state of Missouri, or meet one of the other requirements outlined in standard 19 CSR 30-20 by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Division of Regulation and Licensure. BLS certification due within 7 days of hire or transfer into position.

Acute care hospital or emergency services experience and experience and/or certification in phlebotomy is preferred.

ED Tech II (Paramedic):

Performs under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, LPN, Clinical Director, or Nursing Supervisor. Responsible for other duties that may arise while actively working in the emergency department. Acts in a supportive role to nurses and/or physicians and is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient and family centered care in the assigned unit. Roles during this phase of care focus on assessing the patient and developing a plan of care designed to meet the physical, psychological, educational, and sociocultural needs of the patient and family. Administers medication with the scope of practice of the Paramedic. Duties include but are not limited to: preparing and administering medications within the Paramedic scope; administering and/or assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs); collection of vital signs; documenting intake & output; fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures; performing urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, specimen collection using approved techniques and procedures, and/or point of care testing as requested; assisting in the preparation and transport of both cardiac and non-cardiac monitored patients for tests, procedures, and admission to inpatient units; collection of clinical data and reporting changes in patient conditions to the nurse; documentation of all patient care activities with correct medical terminology and approved abbreviations; acting as a patient safety sitter when necessary; assisting with setup, maintenance, and stocking of equipment and supplies; performing EKGs; initiating peripheral intravenous (IV) access within the scope of the Paramedic; providing spirtual, emotional, physical, psychosocial, and culturally-competent care; participating in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance; participating in professional development opportunities; supporting and encouraging a harmonious work environment and assisting others without being asked; demonstrates flexibility with staffing needs; delegating tasks to appropriate skill levels and providing supervision for quality assurance and follow-through; prioritizing to consistently meet deadlines and adapts to changes in a quick and efficient manner; participating in staff meetings and/or reviewing meeting minutes if unable to attend; participating in process improvement opportunities and implementing changes based on current evidence; facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration and patient-provider communication; documenting consumption of products and charges appropriately.

Current licensure as a paramedic in the state of Missouri is required. BLS due within 7 days of hire, ALS, and PALS due within 30 days of hire. CPI certification is required within 90 days of hire. Unit specific certifications and continuing education are required. National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (NREMT-P) certification is strongly preferred. One (1) year experience working with emergency medical service (e.g. ambulance) or community emergency response service (e.g. Fire Department) is strongly preferred.

ED Tech II (LPN):

Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient and family centered care in the assigned nursing unit. Roles during this phase of care focus on assessing the patient and developing a plan of care designed to meet the physical, psychological, educational, and sociocultural needs of the patient and family. Administers medication with the scope of practice of the LPN Duties include, but are not limited to: preparing and administering medications and blood products within the LPN Scope of Practice; administering and/or assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs); collection of vital signs; documenting intake & output; fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures; performing urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, specimen collection using approved techniques and procedures, and/or point of care testing as requested; assisting in the preparation and transport of cardiac and non-cardiac monitored patients for tests, procedures, and admission to inpatient units; collection of clinical data and reporting changes in patient conditions to the nurse; documentation of all patient care activities with correct medical terminology and approved abbreviations; acting as a patient safety sitter when necessary; assisting with setup, maintenance, and stocking of equipment and supplies; performing EKGs; providing spirtual, emotional, physical, psychosocial, and culturally-competent care; participating in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance; participating in professional development opportunities; supporting and encouraging a harmonious work environment and assisting others without being asked; demonstrates flexibility with staffing needs; delegating tasks to appropriate skill levels and providing supervision for quality assurance and follow-through; prioritizing to consistently meet deadlines and adapts to changes in a quick and efficient manner; participating in staff meetings and/or reviewing meeting minutes if unable to attend; participating in process improvement opportunities and implementing changes based on current evidence; facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration and patient-provider communication; ensuring all necessary informed consents are signed prior to providing non-emergency care; documenting consumption of products and charges appropriately; and additional tasks as required by the unit and in alignment with the LPN Scope of Practice and the state of Missouri.
