We are seeking a self-starter to join our team in our Wytheville office in the role of Erosion & Sediment Control Inspector. This role will travel to work sites to conduct inspections for field compliance with permits, associated reporting, updating construction/project documents as needed, and withpost-construction inspections. The ideal candidate must have a valid VA driver's license with a clean driving record, and preference will be given for anyone who currently has DEQ ESC & SWM certifications. Essential Functions:
- Prepares and maintains detailed records and reports related to erosion and sedimentation as needed.
- Reviews sedimentation and erosion control plans for site data, existing and planned topography, and appropriateness of measures to control erosion and sedimentation.
- Inspects perimeters, silt fences, construction entrances, sedimentation basins, grading, etc.
- Maintains current knowledge of changing laws and regulations.
- Conducts field inspections of properties to monitor progress towards compliance and to maintain appropriate records of enforcement activity; checks perimeters; checks silt fences, construction entrances, sedimentation basin, grading, and other mitigation efforts.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
Competencies:
- A high school diploma is required, and an Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited academic institution is preferred.
- VA DEQ Stormwater and ESC certification is required, or the ability to attend designated classes and pass certification exams within 6 months.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three to five years' experience
- A self-starter, someone who can learn as they go.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Responsive; timely responsiveness to internal and external inquiries is part of our reputation.
- Willing to travel as needed to remote sites to perform inspections.
