POSITION TITLE: Intern - ESE/SCSDIVISION: Extended School Enrichment/Summer Camp SeriesREPORTS TO: Assistant Director ESE FLSA STATUS: Non-ExemptPAY RANGE: $12 per hourPurpose of Position:The purpose of this position is to further the student's understanding and experience in the field of parks and recreation and assist with a variety of recreation management duties. Assist in facilitating school year/summer camp activities with participants enrolled in department programs, assisting with planning and preparation of programs, and other administration responsibilities within the Extended School Enrichment (ESE) and Summer Camp Series (SCS) programs.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Facilitate school year/summer camp activities with 5-15-year-old program participants.
- Supervise participants throughout all aspects of school year/summer camp programs.
- Attend and participate in professional development meetings and trainings as needed.
- Assist with the organization and coordination of contracted programs.
- Assist with the evaluation of ESE/SCS programs to improve or expand existing programs.
- Recommend new and innovative recreational activities and ideas for ESE/SCS programs.
- Assist with the management of school year/summer camps and complete special projects.
- Disseminate information about the ESE/SCS program to the public in a polite and effective manner.
- Answer and respond to telephone calls and emails in a professional manner.
- Assist in preparation and dissemination of promotional materials, including seasonal brochures, flyers, posters, advertisements, social media posts, and news releases.
- Maintain computerized and hard-copy file systems of department records.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
- Ability to assist and supervise 5-15 year old program participants with daily activities.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide at a minimum of 6th grade level.
- Ability to communicate effectively; ability to interact with members of the public and CCPR staff in a positive manner.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques utilized in planning, organizing and implementing recreation programs, events and activities.
- Good knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies required for recreation programs.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently without routine supervision.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions during periods of high volume and under pressure from the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department staff, program participants (and their parents/guardians if applicable) and the general public.
- Ability to project a positive, professional image for the department through appropriate appearance and demeanor.
- Ability to work prescribed shift and operate a motor vehicle to conduct work activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults; includes ability to speak and write clearly.
- Ability to exert moderate physical effort, involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
- Student in either a Bachelor's or Master's program in recreation or related field.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess or be willing to acquire First Aid and CPR/AED.
- Preference to possess Stewards of Children, QPR and Verbal Intervention certification and maintain certification.
(ESE/SCS will provide training opportunities for all required trainings & certifications)Must Complete Prior to Starting with Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation
- Must pass a background check that encompasses national, state and local searches.
- Must clear the National Sex Offender Public website.
