Reports to: Vice President of Global Sustainability

This is a role primarily responsible for global voluntary and regulated ESG reporting with some general sustainability tasks as needed.
What youll be doing:
- Own and stay current with evolving global mandatory ESG reporting guidelines (CSRD, SEC, California, etc.), reporting norms, industry expectations, and the competitive landscape of our peers/competitors.
- Lead the annual corporate sustainability report process in collaboration with Global Marketing and Communications and in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) and Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
- Oversee voluntary sustainability reporting through various platforms including the Corporate Responsibility Report, Dow Jones Sustainability Index, EcoVadis, and other platforms
- Manage and lead reporting activities including interviewing subject matter experts, drafting content, managing external agencies, facilitating functional and senior management reviews/approvals, and ensuring thorough coverage of broad business issues as well as our priority areas for sustainability with the goal of enhancing the quality and transparency of Sonocos annual corporate sustainability report and other voluntary reporting each year.
- Support onboarding of data management solutions and ESG reporting software, including tools and processes to track, monitor, and evaluate progress and performance against Sustainability goals and commitments.
- Manage, track and update key performance indicators (KPIs) relevant to Sonocos corporate commitments and improve the process for collecting disparate ESG data through automation in order to meet the needs of ESG reports, goals, surveys and indices.
- Own, and improve upon, sustainability data management, leading the identification and resolution of data quality issues when observed.
- Collaborate with Finance and Supply Management to support mandatory regulated reporting such as the EU CSRD, SEC Climate Disclosure Rules, and other national and state level regulated reporting.
- Create and/or lead formal and informal teams across the organization engage, influence and collaborate with internal stakeholders, including senior executives to comply with regulated and voluntary reporting frameworks.
- Prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership, the board of directors, and key stakeholders, summarizing sustainability performance, trends, and strategic recommendations.
- Responsible for routine and moderate financial activities: budgets, quotes, invoices, etc.
- Leads or supports product sustainability project-related activities as needed.
- Become the go-to person for voluntary and mandatory sustainability reporting within the Company.
This hybrid position is located at our Corporate Headquarters in beautiful Hartsville, SC and close to exciting destinations (Myrtle Beach, SC Charleston, SC, Columbia, SC and Charlotte, NC).
Wed love to hear from you if:
- Bachelor's degree and/or masters degree in relevant field including sustainability management, environmental studies, business administration, etc.
- 5+ years of previous experience in sustainability; packaging sustainability strongly preferred.
- Robust technical understanding and experience with sustainability-related data collection and controls and related frameworks (CSRD, TDFC, Ecovadis, etc.) and rating agencies (DJSI, CDP, MSCI, etc.)
- Previous data governance, third-party assurance and/or cross-functional team management experience
Preferred Skills & Competencies:
- Experience managing consistent and accurate data collection, developing data controls, and leveraging IT solutions as applicable.
- Knowledge of environmental, social and governance (ESG) ratings/rankings (MSCI, Sustainalytics, DJSI, etc.)
- Ability to deliver in ambiguity, work autonomously, and multi-task in a dynamic environment with changing priorities.
- Demonstrated experience influencing without formal authority.
- Demonstrated ability in leading sustainability strategies and programs.
- Knowledge of key sustainability principles as they relate to packaging.
- Ability to develop strong collaborative relationships internally and externally, particularly with marketing, technology, and key stakeholders in a matrixed organization.
- A sophisticated and deep understanding of today's key global ESG issues and landscape, and the roles of the private and public sectors both in the U.S. and abroad.
- Ability to be recognized as a sustainability thought leader inside and outside the company.
- Strong customer relationship skills and ability to proactively address their wants and needs.
- Excellent organizational and team and project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- GRI Professional Certification, IFRA/FSA Credential or similar certification
- Demonstrated knowledge of sustainability market trends and opportunities.
Compensation:
The annual base salary range for this role is from $136,720 to $153,810.
