ESL Teacher for Therapeutic Public Day SchoolThe Devens School Program combines the collective strengths of students, families and the school to developcollaborative plans, enabling students with significant social, emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges to learnand use skills to meet their educational goals in a therapeutic public day special education school program. Theprogram is evidence-based with an emphasis on Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS); integration ofsupport and education including school based cognitive behavioral therapeutic support. Additional focus is on thecontinuous connections between the students, families, and local school district personnel. The program strives toassist students in their social emotional competence and academic development to transition to less restrictiveacademic settings.Description of The Position:ESL teachers are responsible for utilizing research-based second language acquisition strategies to teach EnglishLearners in grades K-12 in mixed grade level classrooms in a co-teaching, standalone, and push-in model. Whenpossible, ESL teachers will co-teach and push-in during ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies lessons. ESLteachers will work with teaching teams to support EL participation and academic achievement by setting commongoals and co-planning instruction. Teachers should be well versed in cultural responsiveness and strategies todifferentiate for a diverse population of ELs including SLIFE and ELs with Disabilities. This educator will provide ESLdirect instruction to very small groups of students across all grade levels.Requirements:? Bachelor's Degree in Education and/or Liberal Arts? Massachusetts Teaching Licensure in ESL? SEI EndorsementPreferred Requirements:? Master's Degree in Education? 3 or more years of teaching experience? Dual Licensure in Special Education? Experience working in an urban public schools setting? Coursework in Phonics Instruction and/or Applied Linguistics? Foreign Language ProficiencyDuties:? Plan and facilitate ESL lessons for English Learners within existing models of instruction that are alignedwith State Standards English Language Arts and Writing.? Collaborate and co-plan with classroom co-teachers to provide the highest quality instruction and support forEnglish Learners.? Proctor MCAS and ACCESS assessments for English Learners.? Assist in EL paperwork management and compliance measures set forth by the Massachusetts Departmentof Elementary and Secondary Education.? Use all available technology and virtual curricula provided by the district to create engaging lessons andsupports that are linked with 21st Century skills and remote accessibility.? Utilize available student learning data to make instructional decisions and foci including but not limited toMCAS, ACCESS, and i-ready.? Use the WIDA Can Do Descriptors and other WIDA tools to plan lessons and anticipate the languagedemands of a lesson.? Communicates with students during instruction and interpersonal interaction using language structure, tone,and body language that promotes positive student behavior, conflict resolution and problem solving,effective management of power struggles, and the application of proactive strategies for management ofescalating behavior.? Utilize inclusive practices and SEI strategies for English Learners.? Incorporate language activities into content instruction including Speaking, Reading and Writing that alignwith State Standards for Language Proficiency.? Communicate with student families on a regular basis using culturally responsive strategies that promotetwo-way conversations.? Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development that is relevant to thechallenges of urban education in order to close opportunity gaps.? Collaborate with guidance counselors to refer students who are in need of Social Emotional support.? Collaborate with Special Education leadership and teacher colleagues to review IEPs and ensure allaccommodations are properly and consistently delivered.?
