ESL TeacherReports to: PrincipalJob Summary: To plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments which help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development in the 21st century.Terms of Employment: 10 months, with salary to be determined by State Salary Schedule.Duties and Responsibilities: Identifying and testing (when necessary) ALL students who may be English Language Learners (ELL's), based on enrollment information and the Home Language Survey; Following the state-adopted ESL curriculum (World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment-WIDA) and develop lesson plans based on the WIDA standards; Collaborating with the classroom teacher description to ensure that ELL's are receiving differentiated instruction and are afforded the acceptable testing accommodations that will be used with end-of- year testing. The ESL teachers confer with classroom teachers at the beginning of the school year to develop an individualized learning plan for each. Participating in their base school meetings and other activities as well as attending ESL team meetings as scheduled throughout the year. Coordinating the annual ACCESS testing to determine language proficiency-this is a six-week window in February and March. Maintaining a database for each school assigned to the ESL teacher, which contains basic demographic information as well as language proficiency levels and instructional goals for each student-database accuracy is crucial for statewide reports due each year from the LEA. Participating in professional development opportunities as well as offering professional development to the schools in which they work. Planning lessons for daily instruction. Providing instructional support for ELL's who may not receive direct services in classes that meet each day or in small-group instruction; Collaborating with counselors for class scheduling. All other duties as assigned.**Those ESL teachers who also speak Spanish often are called to assist school staff with parent meetings and /or phone calls to share information in oral or written form.Qualifications: Needs to hold an NC Licensure, preferably in the grade range they are teaching. Needs to hold an ESL add-on or stand-alone licensure.Physical Requirements: Must be able to frequently lift/carry up to 10 pounds. Must be able to occasionally lift/carry up to 20 pounds. Must be able to occasionally push/pull up to 50 pounds. Must be able to occasionally perform the following: stooping, fine manipulation, grasping, bending, handling, balancing, reaching.
