Job Summary Estimator III is a senior-level professional responsible for preparing and overseeing accurate, comprehensive project cost estimates for complex construction projects. This role involves analyzing project plans, specifications, and other documentation to determine the overall cost of a project. Estimator III collaborates with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure estimates align with company objectives, project requirements, and client expectations. Key Responsibilities include:
  • Provide a detailed and carefully thought-out preliminary cost estimate, based on client provided documents and interviews.
  • Responsible for conceptual, schematic, design development estimates, GMPs, lump sum bidding, and public bid package assembly.
  • Perform conceptual estimating, given limited information via a narrative and SD or space plan level drawings.
  • The ability to manage more than 2 projects at one time and have an ambitious approach to balancing workload in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience frequently estimating projects up to $25M in size in sectors like healthcare, financial, K-12, higher education, commercial interiors, and energy with larger projects estimated occasionally. This would include new construction and interior renovation type projects.
  • Ability to successfully create bid packages/strategize to meet diverse trade partner goals.
  • Ability to provide strong support on joint ventures and design build/design-assist- projects.
  • Ability to provide high level overview of a project schedule and feasibility.
  • Must be passionate, flexible, and adaptable with collaborating both internally and externally with operations team, design teams, and joint venture partners.
  • Participate in project meetings with owner, architect, and engineers. Review and provide feedback on all project budget aspects.
  • Keep up to date of professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Periodic travel to attend pre-bid meetings, site evaluations, and offsite meetings.
  • Ability to multitask with items outside of estimating.
  • Ability to listen and communicate with various people & roles within their respective companies.
Education & Additional Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or business school.
  • 10 years of experience in construction estimating, with a focus on commercial construction.
  • A minimum of 3 years commercial preconstruction experience with a General Contractor is required.
  • Experience with estimating ground up and interior renovations projects with a general contractor.
  • Advanced expertise in Microsoft Office, On-screen Takeoff, SmartBid and Bluebeam software knowledge.
  • Experience with online bidding platforms, such as: Total Bid and/or Power Advocate is preferred.
  • Must be able to manage tight deadlines and the responsibility of accurately forecasting the budget for a project.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
