Job Title: Construction Estimator
Location: Austin, TX
Position Overview: The Construction Estimator will prepare detailed estimates for projects in construction across multiple sectors, including K-12, retail, healthcare, high-rise, corporate interiors, and municipal based on construction drawings and specifications. You will work closely with project teams, subcontractors, and trade partners to ensure accurate and competitive pricing for our ground-up and interior build-out projects. This role reports to the Lead Estimator, Senior Estimator, or Preconstruction Manager.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed estimates, including quantity take-offs, analysis, estimate input, and studies for assigned scope items.
- Assemble and prepare bids and proposals for different contract types (e.g., Lump Sum, Guaranteed Maximum Price, Cost Plus).
- Manage document control for the project, including receiving and distributing drawings and specifications.
- Liaise with trade partners, design teams (architects, engineers, consultants), and clients, acting as the main point of contact for trade partners and information distribution.
- Conduct constructability reviews in collaboration with project teams, designers, and trade partners.
- Lead value analysis studies to identify more cost-effective alternatives to the proposed scope.
- Develop trade package scopes, ensuring coordination with the project team to eliminate scope gaps and overlaps.
- Prepare comparison analyses for assigned scopes relative to previous estimates.
- Evaluate trade partner proposals and document information into a Bid Recording Sheet; participate in Post Bid Reviews.
- Manage action items from Post Bid and finalize trade partner scope; make recommendations to Project Leads for bid awards.
- Supervise and mentor Assistant Estimators and Estimating Interns as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field with a minimum of 3 years of estimating experience.
- Proficient in estimating software such as Bluebeam, Procore, PlanSwift, WinEst, OST (On-Screen Takeoff), or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with construction materials, systems, and market conditions, particularly for ground-up K-12, retail, healthcare, high-rise, corporate interiors, and municipal projects.
- Ability to read and interpret contract documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Strong conceptual skills and the ability to work with limited information.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and estimating software.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
