Summary
As a Construction Estimator, you will be a key member of our preconstruction team, responsible for accurately estimating design, engineering, and construction costs. Working closely with internal and external teams, you will play a vital role in project development from initial concept to completion. This position reports to the Senior Estimator, Preconstruction Manager, or General Manager.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates from blueprints, specifications, and technical documents.
- Stay current on building codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
- Develop preliminary budget forecasts for design teams based on schematic or progress designs.
- Collaborate effectively with architects, engineers, and contractors throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain comprehensive databases of bids, engineering firms, contractors, suppliers, and material/equipment catalogs.
- Conduct pre-bid meetings (both in-person and online).
- Maintain clear communication with contractors and bidders.
- Prepare bid documents in collaboration with preconstruction and external engineering teams.
- Evaluate site requirements and analyze cost changes for purchasing decisions.
- Resolve cost discrepancies through data analysis.
- Identify value engineering opportunities for cost savings.
- Prepare and present budgets, reports, and project plans for management review.
- Schedule and attend client, site manager, and staff meetings.
- Conduct site visits as needed to gather necessary information.
- Monitor construction progress to ensure alignment with estimates and plans.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, and building codes.
- Proven ability to prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using computer software for project management and cost analysis.
- Solid math skills (algebra, geometry, arithmetic).
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Valid U.S. driver's license.
Physical Demands
This position requires the ability to work in both office and field settings, including construction sites. Physical requirements include: lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, twisting, reaching, climbing, and walking. Must possess clear vision and effective communication skills.
