About the Role - The Estimator is responsible for preparing and presenting general and/or discipline specific (civil, electrical, construction distributable, or services) estimates for our Clean Energy business lines including Solar, Wind and Battery Storage. This role includes responsibility for all areas of RFP requirements, proposal strategies and risk management.
Responsibilities -
- Perform conceptual estimates for renewable energy projects from start to finish, including site visits, scope determination, communication with clients and JMS leadership and data entry into construction estimate software
- Create an achievable estimate plan, including budget, and ensuring quality and integrity
- Combine estimate elements and prepare internal review documents and bid forms for the proposal
- Coordinate proposal strategies with Proposal Management and joint venture partners, as appropriate
- Compile documentation to support estimate basis and assumptions
- Evaluate the design or Request for Proposal (RFP) scope criteria and quantities for accuracy, plausibility and collaborate with the project team to establish additional estimating basis when information is lacking
- Assist in supply chain bid evaluation, considering cost and schedule criteria, engaging in vendor discussions as needed
- Represent JMS to clients, engineers and vendors with the highest standards of professionalism and ethical behavior
- Calculate non-manual, distributable or contractors indirect cost estimates, miscellaneous construction tools and equipment, non-manual staffing, startup services, payroll taxes and insurance, operations and other field expenses
- Present the estimate management review package effectively to the estimating team, department and business line management
- Guide the development of proposal cash flow models and working capital analysis
- Conduct and assess escalation calculations
- Understand and incorporate commercial terms and conditions into estimates
- Identify risk factors, assign risk levels to project segments and determine risk mitigation strategies
- Analyze productivity and estimate probable construction costs based on craft crew productivity
- Travel to jobsites as needed
Qualifications - Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related field preferred. Experience in the management and coordination of proposal efforts and/or project forecasts. Experience in renewable energy construction preferred.
Required Skills -
- Strong client facing and internal communications and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with Estimating Software such as HeavyBid or AccuBid strongly preferred.
- Experience with civil/electrical or construction indirect estimate develop
- Experience with Lump Sum Design Estimates
- Technical and practical understanding of engineering, procurement and construction methods and techniques
- Ability to work effectively with and provide leadership to a diverse team.
