The Department oversees a broad range of New Mexico's arts and cultural heritage agencies. These include 15 divisions representing a variety of programs and services. For at least 4,000 years, people have been growing food in this region, and the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum (Farm & Ranch) in Las Cruces tells this amazing story through interactive exhibits, demonstrations, oral histories, objects, and educational programs. The campus features several barns, animals, a greenhouse, play areas for children, an amphitheater, the Heritage Garden and much more. Permanent and changing exhibits, as well as a theater, library, gift shop, snack bar, and meeting rooms are located in the 100,000-square-feet, ranch-style Bruce King Building. The combination of the beautiful, spacious main building and the 47-acre property with barns, trees, gardens, and animals create a physical working environment that is outstanding. The Museum's staff members have varied backgrounds and combine their skills to make an efficient, positive team. Why does the job exist? This position plans, coordinate, and execute a series of events: small, large, recurring, annual, and as needed in support of the Museum mission. This position will collaborate with other organizations for on-site educational events and programs. This position will coordinate Museum volunteers in support of Museum operations. How does it get done? - In consultation with communications/public relations specialist, create the annual events calendar. - Plan, coordinate, and execute events both annual and recurring, using creative out of the box thinking to tailor events to changing audience and trends. - Create budget for events, indicating income and expenses as well as identify and recommend potential funding sources for sponsorships and donations based on current networking or previous partnerships. - Keep track of income from vendors - Collaborate with community organizations for educational events/programs, volunteer support, and exhibit needs. - Collaborate with the Public Relations Specialist to promote and market the Museum events and community outreach projects. - Collaborate with the Museum Experience Department to assist in staffing and promoting the Museum for educational outreach events. - Support our Friends group by collaborating in planning and executing Friends-Museum joint events - Plan and execute bi-annual volunteer appreciation activities or events. Conduct outreach activities at promotional events statewide in support of the museum as needed: - Providing administrative support by answering phones and taking messages, returning phone calls and emails with in 24 business hours, data entry and covering admission desk. - Recording income and expenses for all events and making budget projection for upcoming years in collaboration with museum financial staff. - Maintaining constant communication and maintain relationships with event vendors. This position serves residents of New Mexico, Museum visitors, Museum staff, schools, stakeholders and the Department of Cultural Affairs staff, and the Friends of the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum. Must have great customer service skills and enjoy working with the public. Minimum Qualification Associates Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or Accounting and two (2) years of directly related job experience in the areas of office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management and/or contract management.
