The director of events creates the overall events strategy and plan for Utah Business in collaboration with senior leadership. The position provides input to strategic decisions, including goals, budget, success metrics and messaging for events, and has overall responsibility for ensuring events stay within budget. The director of events is capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. This position will also prepare periodic management reports.

Utah Business hosts events such as: Sales & Marketer of the Year, AI100, 40 Under 40, CEO of the Year, Outstanding Directors, HR Achievement, 30 Women to Watch, Executive Excellence, Legal Elite 100, Fast50, Innovation Awards, Outdoor Summit, Living Color Gala, Most Influential Women, Green Business, Healthcare Heroes, Forward, Best Companies, Founder Fridays, and more!

The successful candidate will show an ability to:

• Create growth strategy and annual plan for events program, including expansion into new event types—e.g. content events and webinars and audience growth for recognition-style events.
• Define target audiences, then align or create events to appeal to those audiences.
• In collaboration with the business manager, define sponsorship packages and options to appeal to partners and advertisers.
• Create annual and event-specific expense budgets with the business manager.
• Implement best practices and develop standard operating procedures.
• Develop a vendor network and approve vendor selections.
• Negotiate contracts for event support services.
• Manage pre-event activities and post-event evaluations.
• Lead and direct the work of other employees.
• Conduct personnel actions, including hiring, performance management, and termination.

Qualifications and necessary skills:

• 8+ years experience leading corporate or business events.
• A bachelor's degree in business or related field.
• Experience in effectively managing teams and different personalities.
