General Statement of Job
Under limited supervision, develops, organizes and supervises events and public venues for the City of Kissimmee. Works in a fast paced, dynamic, high impact position responsible for implementing, supervising, and participating in various activities in various venues within the City. Oversees marketing, operations, venue management, administration and related functions. Manages the Events division including Event Supervisor, Event Coordinators and full time and part time event staff. Reports to the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Manages the planning, coordination and implementation of special events for the City of Kissimmee including the management of the Kissimmee Civic Center and surrounding facilities as well as the coordination of efforts among other City departments.
Researches, evaluates and recommends creative activities and community events to further enhance the quality of life for all citizens and visitors.
Continually develops and implements event and venue business improvement processes with an emphasis on stewardship, leadership and guest experience.
Develops and executes new and innovative ways to market and promote City events and venues.
Prepares and manages the division budgets (capital and operating).
Seeks sponsors for all City events and programs.
Manages and provides leadership to all division staff including scheduling, recruitment, training, performance evaluation and discipline.
Ability to establish professional relationships with the public, community leaders, partners, civic groups and social clubs by having excellent people skills and organizational skills and the ability to communicate them through presentations, meetings and public speaking representing the City.
Manages the rental of City owned and operated facilities ensuring customers who are renting facilities are given assistance with planning, coordinating and implementing their events as needed.
Creates detailed run of show for events and manages on-site production to ensure smooth execution of events including critical decisions regarding event management in the field as related to staffing, event logistics, event control, emergency management and safety and breakdown.
Identify and solve challenges and/or develop alternative solutions, working with all parties to find resolution.
Administers the fee waiver grant program; a program that allows not-for-profit and/or governmental agencies to request waivers of City fees necessary to put on a special event at a City facility or venue.
Administers and manages the City of Kissimmee Community Benefit Grant Program.
Creates, amends and enforces all policies and procedures specific to special events and venues.
Conducts Special Event Committee meetings including event evaluation and review.
Position requires 40+ hours per week including nights, weekends and holidays when necessary.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists with event set-up and break-down and daily management of programs when necessary.
Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Education and Training
Requires a Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation administration, event management, hospitality, marketing, or related field supplemented by five (5) years of related experience in event management and public relations and marketing or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have proven/excellent customer service, time management and event planning skills. Experience with facility management is preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License. Must possess or obtain the most current FEMA 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 Incident Command System certifications within 12 months of appointment to the job.

Skill Requirements:
Is knowledgeable in the methods, policies and procedures city operations pertaining to specific duties of the Events and Public Venues Manager. Is knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Understands the role of the department in relation to the entire operations of the City. Has knowledge of the functions and interrelationships of City and other related governmental agencies.
Has the ability to comprehend, interpret and apply regulations, procedures and related information. Has thorough knowledge of modern office practices and technology. Has thorough knowledge of proper English usage, vocabulary, spelling and basic mathematics. Has knowledge of the computer and other technical terminology used within the department; has skill in the use of computers for data and word processing.
Knows how to operate and maintain a variety of office equipment as necessary in the performance of daily activities. Is skilled in applying a responsible attention to detail as necessary in preparing reports and correspondence. Is able to read and interpret a variety of materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job. Is able to maintain records accurately and with confidentiality as required.
Is able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision. Is able to use independent judgment in performing routine tasks. Has the ability to plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities. Is able to provide assistance to supervisors, co-workers and the general public as needed. Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines and equipment including computers, general office equipment, telephone, etc. Must be able to exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Must be able to lift/carry weights of ten to twenty pounds.
