Job Description The Evidence Based Practice Specialist will establish a structure to encourage, infuse, and educate clinical nurses and nurse leaders, with a goal of integration of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) into routine nursing care, nursing leadership, and nursing education. The primary focus of this role is to facilitate the implementation of EBP changes across the organization to improve patient and nursing outcomes. The EBP Specialist will support the development of an EBP infrastructure to increase linkages between the Institute for Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice (INR) and the nursing team, thus facilitating a change in culture around EBP. This is a per diem position within the INR and aligns with Nursing Excellence within Connecticut Children's. Responsibilities Job Duties
  • Act as consultant to support nurses with EBP implementation, review outcomes of such changes, and address opportunities for improvement at the unit/ department level.
  • Provides EBP education and training for Connecticut Children's nursing teams.
  • Works in collaboration with colleagues in the Institute for Nursing Research and other relevant stakeholders to promote, enhance, and sustain EBP throughout the institution.
  • Coordinate with key team members on the relevant use of research and EBP strategies.
  • Supports the Nursing Research and EBP Fellowship Program and the Nurse Residency Program related to EBP and research.
  • Provide leadership support to the Research and EBP Central Council.
  • Supports unit and division/department-based Nursing Professional Governance Councils related to EBP.
  • Facilitates the utilization of current evidence-based practice resources including databases, decision-support tools, and library resources.
  • Participates in Nursing Committees, and Task Forces/Work Groups as needed.
  • Where appropriate, will support the development of nursing-related EBP guidelines, guidance documents, and policies.
  • Models EBP by using the best evidence for decision-making including current research, clinical expertise, and patient/family values and preferences.
  • Promotes the dissemination of findings.
Qualifications Minimum education: BSN in Nursing. If BA/BS is in a discipline other than nursing must hold a Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution. Minimum experience: 3-5 years of clinical nursing practice with experience in EBP and/or research. Mentoring and professional development/teaching experience. Outstanding communication and organization skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with nursing teams and various organizational stakeholders. Preferred education & experience: MS or DNP in Nursing. Experience with Magnet Recognition Program preferred. Experience in pediatric research and EBP preferred. Experience as a hospital or health care organization EBP Specialist. Specialty certification preferred. KSAs required upon hire or transfer (copy from KSA section below). License and/or Certification Required: Unencumbered, Licensed Registered Nurse or APRN in the State of Connecticut. CITI certification (may be completed upon hire).
