$1,000 Sign on Bonus*Job Title: EVS Technician Department: Environmental ServicesReports to: Environmental Services Supervisor Revision Date: 9/25/2023Grade Level: 18 Status: Non-ExemptJob Summary:The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for executing the daily duties required to establish and maintain a safe, hygienic, and aesthetically pleasing care environment. This will be achieved by demonstrating the principles of cleaning, disinfecting, and quality assurance toward thereduction of harmful pathogens. While executing the assigned tasks, the EVS Tech will have contact with patients, visitors, and clinical and non-clinical staff. Contact may include physical, psychological, educational, and safety related and should be appropriate to the specific demographics of patients served in assigned service areas. Responsible for ensuring timely room turns related to patient throughput within the basic principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention. The environmental services technician, in accordance with organizational standards of quality, is an essential contributor to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention and patient experience.Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for daily occupied/ and discharged/transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment as assigned and other common area of assignment.
- Performs duties while demonstrating working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements, proper and safe chemical use, equipment handling, and labor-saving products for all items within the specialty environment tasked with servicing.
- Adheres to all organization safety, risk management and infection control standards while promoting a culture of safety.
- Accountable for accurately maintaining all appropriate logs and check lists/sheets current.
- Responsible for cleaning and disinfection of equipment and areas of assignment according to procedures, policies and manufacturer recommendations.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the cleaning and disinfecting requirements specific to highly sensitive environments.
- Demonstrates understanding of the training and education related to evidence-based recommendations in accordance with the Association for the Health Care Environment (AHE), Association for Professional in Infection Control (APIC) and Association for peri-Operative Nurses (AORN), CDC, The Joint Commission and other regulatory bodies.
- Actively participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics.
- Maintains supplies and equipment by properly stocking and restocking environmental services cart in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Removes waste and transport to appropriate disposal area while identifying proper waste streams (i.e. regulated medical, recycle, solid, and hazardous).
- Follows all environmental and infection prevention practices (i.e. proper cleaning and disinfection protocols and process, hand hygiene, standard & isolation precautions, as well as proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Recognizes and adheres to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
- Practices critical thinking skills to include prioritization of duties and immediate needs/requests (Stat cleans).
- Identify and utilize appropriate resources to ensure identified problems or concerns are followed through and resolved.
- Demonstrate knowledge of facility safety requirements.
- Operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment.
- May be asked to perform specialty task according to facility needs including task such as conference room set up/ cleaning of stairwells and elevators, floor care, and hanging of cubicle curtains.
- Assists in onboarding new Environmental Services Technicians as requested.
- Maintains confidentiality in all patient, hospital, employee, and physician information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience in providing cleaning services within similar environment preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to work 4 to 6 hours standing, walking, moving about without needing to sit down.
- Frequent pulling, pushing, and bending and ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 100 lbs. using proper body mechanics and/or available equipment.
- Ability to sit, bend, crawl climb, reach, lift, or kneel for prolonged periods of time to perform cleaning tasks; often requires twisting and/or turning motions.
- Requires use of hands and/or feet for routine cleaning.
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions.
- Requires assembling, using and maintaining all department equipment.
- Environment includes low and high temperatures, loud noises, fumes, and confined areas.
- Utilize techniques of body mechanics for personal safety.
- Follows principles of infection control and standard precautions while performing job functions.
- Actively participates in Quality Assurance programs and CQI, in-service programs, cross-training; accepts assignments to other units/shifts as hospital needs require; attends all mandatory classes as required; completes unit-specific competencies.
- Complies with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations.
