PERQUIMANS COUNTY SCHOOLS JOB DESCRIPTIONJOB TITLE: TEACHER ASSISTANT - BEHAVIOR SUPPORTTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-Time, Temporary.Only funded for current school year. (Continued employment beyond the current school year is subject to the availability of grant funds.)QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's Degree or 48 semester hoursESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.   • Cooperates in developing procedures for the classroom
  • Assists Behavior Liaison and classroom teacher in the preparation of materials
  • Maintains awareness of goals and objectives of supervising teacher with PRC 29 requirements
  • Assists in implementing the planned program and social skills lesson plans
  • Provides information to teacher(s) concerning program evaluation and facilitates activities to improve effectiveness of the total school program
  • Carries out student supervisory duties in a prompt and responsible manner to ensure a safe and healthful environment
  • Clerical/Technical Assistance
  • Collects and records PRC 29 data according to established procedures
  • Maintains EC files and records in accordance with applicable rules, laws, and regulations
  • Performs clerical duties as assigned
  • Demonstrates technical skill in operating equipment
  • Assembles materials to maximize their use
  • General Classroom Assistance
  • Exhibits positive behavior toward children, parents, staff and administrators
  • Represents the needs of school and children to parents and the community in a positive manner
  • Conducts self as a positive role model in the school and community
  • Assists students with understanding, interpreting and adhering to laws, rules, and regulations
  • Shares the responsibility for school cleanliness and neatness
  • Assists in developing good housekeeping skills and regard for the environment both inside and outside the classroom
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
  • Behavior Support Assistant will maintain a notebook that will be monitored by the Behavior Support Liaison. It will contain the following:
  • Weekly behavior logs detailing observation of discrete trials, rate of change and transference
  • Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP's) with progress notes
  • Social Skills lesson plans
  • Incident reports and office referrals
  • Log of communication with school staff, family, and outside agencies
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONSMay be required to perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or principal.Receives training and inservice pertinent to the job function.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSPhysical Requirements: Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. May be required to lift a student. Physical demand requirements are for Light Work.Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions or directions to students.Language Ability: Requires the ability to read and complete simple forms. Requires the ability to prepare time sheets using prescribed format.Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form.Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas, to add, subtract, divide and multiply.Manual Dexterity: Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress.Physical Communications: Requires the ability to talk, see, and hear.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESWorking knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children.Working knowledge of the core subjects at the grade level to which employment assignment is made.Some knowledge of expected behavior of children, that is, basic characteristics of ages and stages.Skill necessary to operate audiovisual equipment and common office machines.Skill necessary to make learning aids which will strengthen lesson plans.Ability to comprehend the purpose of teacher designed strategies as a fulfillment of the instructional objective.Ability to discern significant student behavior and refer this to the supervisor.Ability to impart information to the child's level of comprehension.Ability to apply impartially and consistently proper methods of recognition, reward and punishment.Ability to solve independently most minor problems.Ability to follow minimally detailed written and oral instructions without constant supervision.Ability to record and store data accurately.Ability to use correct grammar in written and oral formats.Ability to speak in a clear and pleasant manner.Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.Disclaimer: The preceding job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.
