Position Type: Exceptional Children-Certified/Exceptional Children`s TeacherDate Posted: 10/2/2024Location: Coddle Creek Elementary SchoolPosition Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs, in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of pre-academic, social-emotional, and/or adaptive development by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing students' specific needs; providing a safe and optimal learning environment. Reports to: Building Level Administrators Essential Functions:
- Provides special education services to students identified as disabled in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Provide and maintain an organized, functional, safe and engaging learning environment for all students.
- Develops lesson plans, adapts materials and designs activities to assist EC students develop appropriate academic, behavioral, and social skills and to meet their IEP goals that are based on the NC Foundations of Early Learning Standards.
- Monitors student's progress for IEP goals and behavior plans.
- Maintains EC records in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
- Develops and implements an instructional plan which is compatible with the school and system-wide curricular goals and the students' Individual Education Program.
- Is responsible for the development of Individual Education Programs (IEP) for students with disabilities; implements the IEP; and uses diagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures to update IEPs as needed.
- Provides direct special education instruction to identified students.
- Employs a variety of evidence based teaching methods to meet student needs. Implementation of these methods may require the adaptation or development of materials.
- Monitors student behavior; maintains discipline in the classroom; deescalates inappropriate behaviors; implements Behavior Plans with fidelity; teaches students appropriate behavioral strategies and techniques.
- Assists students with disabilities with their personal and self-help needs, such as eating, toileting, and other essential tasks that the students are not able to perform by themselves.
- Provide support to students utilizing wheelchairs, braces, walkers or any other equipment deemed necessary by the appropriate therapist so that students have access to their total school environment.
- Collaborate with other service providers (OT, PT, speech, OM, VI and HI) to implement support plans and IEP goals so that students can achieve their highest potential and access their total school environment.
- Collaborate with other service providers and staff to schedule IEP meetings.
- Supervises all teaching assistants and other classified staff working in the classroom, including communication of individual student needs, monitoring of student-adult relationships, monitoring implementation of appropriate behavioral and/or medical supports, coordination of curricular support and individual assistance; and collaboration for effective implementation of the classroom schedule.
- Ability to implement a universal classroom schedule as well as individual schedules to meet the student's needs.
- Communicates with parents regarding their children's educational progress via periodic written progress reports.
- Acts as a case coordinator for assigned students; consults with community care-givers, school support professionals, and parents to better understand and meet student needs
- Maintains student records in accordance with North Carolina's Procedures Governing Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities; and complies with state and federal education statutes.
- Treats all students in a fair and equitable manner, interacts effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and community.

- Licensure in Birth-Kindergarten and degree in Education
- State Certification as a Birth-KindergartenTeacher or the ability to obtain
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation
Education:
- HS Diploma
- Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignments.
Experience:
- Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
