Growing together.This is a leadership level position responsible for Optum behavioral health operations, contract management and relationships with customers, including UHC C&S, state Medicaid Agency, providers, advocacy organizations and other key stakeholders. The Behavioral Health Executive Director must coordinate with all functional areas of shared services partners, including but not limited to clinical operations, quality management, network development and management, provider relations, member outreach, education and member services, contract compliance and operations including claims and reporting. This position directly impacts financial performance and achievement of overall public sector goals.If you live within the state of Rhode Island, you will have the flexibility to work remotely as you take on some tough challenges.Primary Responsibilities:Working with the BH-CMO to oversee the ongoing management of behavior crisis prevention, intervention, and stabilization servicesWorking with the other medical officers and the Pharmaceutical director to ensure the integration of physical and Behavioral Health Services and supports for individuals in the populations served, and to oversee the quality improvement initiatives regarding behavior supports and the appropriate use of psychotropic medications in each of these populations.Lead and direct matrix teams, coordinate day to day operations to achieve goals and ensure contract compliance of all functional areas supporting behavioral health in the marketProvide thought leadership and consultative partnership on behavioral health to UHC C&S Health Plan leadership and the state Medicaid agenciesIdentify and analyze local market trends, service gaps and lead the development of mitigation strategies aligned with strategic prioritiesEnsure financial stability of programs by analyzing cost drivers and work with finance on solutionsLead the development and execution of action plans to remedy any audit findings from internal/external audits or state concernsEstablish and maintain relationships with key BH providers and provider associationsInfluence innovation across teams to ensure aligned, cohesive progress across technology, marketing and service operationsPartner with growth organization on business development activities to foster growth and contract retentionYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:8+ years of leadership and administrative experience5+ years of experience in public sector or behavioral healthcareExperience in public sector mental health or non-profit community mental health, with knowledge of Medicaid populationsDemonstrated leadership effectiveness and project management experienceDemonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skillsProven solid customer service orientationProven solid report writing capabilitySolid data analysis and PC proficiencyProven exceptional planning, organization and monitoring skillsProven excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skillsProven solid team player and team building skillsDemonstrated ability to succeed in a matrixed environment, rapid change & imperfect informationDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively and influence others across a matrixed organizationDemonstrated ability and flexibility to assume responsibilities and tasks in a constantly changing work environmentResidence in Rhode Island with the ability to travel ~10% of timePreferred Qualifications:Active, independent, and unrestricted behavioral health licensure and certification from the state or board which issued the credentials5+ years of experience in an administrative position in a mental health organizationThorough understanding of managed care principles, models and financing required with 2+ years of experience working in a corporate managed health care environmentExperience Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHC)Experience making oral presentationsAdministrative experience in a mental health delivery system and in administering a similar contractExperience in a recovery-oriented delivery systemExperience in the Rhode Island mental health and substance abuse service delivery system and in administering a similar contractRhode Island Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $122,100 to $234,700 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
