GW MFA is seeking an experienced operations leader to serve as the Executive Director for the Department of Medicine and Community Care. This role will collaborate with executive, clinical, and physician leaders to develop and implement strategies, manage operational and financial performance, and oversee key projects for department(s).

**This position has a hiring range of $190k-$275k, plus bonus potential**

Position Summary

The Executive Director (ED) works directly with the Chief Operating and Strategy Officer along with the Department Chair to achieve operational and financial goals in support of the academic and clinical mission. The ED is responsible for working collaboratively across the faculty practice to deploy rationale and contemporary models of care to meet budgetary goals, exceptional levels of patient service and financial sustainability. The ED is responsible for mentoring staff and developing strong relationships with physicians, leadership, and management in support of the team, and as an organizational contributor.

  • Accountable and responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations including planning and strategy meetings with the Department Chair and/or Division Director, Executive leadership team, Quality Department, and other senior leaders.
  • Functions as primary administrative contact and leader.
  • Works collaboratively with finance and c-suite to develop operational budgets and works proactively to understand variances while developing and implementing corrective action plans.
  • Establishes clear goals, objectives, and plans to achieve required growth goals with respect to primary care and subspecialties including the identification of sites, launch, and scaling of these practices.
  • Partners with key departments or divisions to understand performance gaps, develops action plans, and acts as a catalyst to help physician and administrative leaders accelerate key initiatives and monitor outcomes.
  • Supports the goal of improving the overall financial success of the organization and exercises sound judgment and discretion in decision-making that impacts financial goals.
  • Possesses deep operational and financial expertise, and applies knowledge to help elevate overall departmental performance.
  • Proactively monitors key operational as well as financial indicators, and partners with key physician and administrative leaders to drive the necessary levels of engagement.
  • Maintains and supports both accurately and timely administration of the Departmental incentive plan, in adherence with organizational guidelines for effort allocation and appropriate sources and uses (e.g. clinical, administrative, research, education, and strategic funding).
  • Develops deep understanding of funds flow, external agreements, and other contractual relationships in order to help Department navigate reconciliation activities, renegotiations, and program management.
  • Works closely with GWU SMHS to understand both GME/UME program requirements, commitments, and funding sources.
  • Partners with Access and Patient Experience teams to streamlines processes, remove barriers.
  • Works effectively with external vendors to maintain service excellence and develop effective partnerships.
  • Maintains visibility within the department and organization, facilitating or participating in key leadership meetings, conducting clinical service rounds, and solicits input through appropriate staff and patient forums.
  • Serves as a role model and motivator, thereby enabling staff to achieve high levels of performance.
  • Builds and maintains positive employee relationships and driving employee engagement while leading the operations team in successful execution of goals.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues and others within the organization to implement organizational wide initiatives with the goal of standardizing processes and reducing variation across the practice.
  • Establishes clear organizational and operating models to appropriately align span of control, key responsibilities, and role clarity.
  • Fosters a culture of collaboration and models the ICARE (i.e. Innovation, Collaboration, Respect, Accountability, and Excellence) values.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field of study, or relevant professional field experience required. A Master's Degree is preferred.

Experience

  • 7 + years of successfully demonstrated operational experience with progressively higher levels of responsibility preferably working in a successful academic practice.
  • Experience with Epic is preferred.
