Institutional Securities Technology (IST) develops and oversees the overall technology strategy and bespoke technology solutions to drive and enable the institutional businesses and enterprise-wide functions. Our clients include Fixed Income, Equities, Commodities, Investment Banking, Research and Global Capital Markets.

Morgan Stanley's market leading institutional equity derivatives business is powered by a world class technology platform from front to back. Our platform manages the processing of Structured Products and OTCs for our exotic derivatives business. This is a complex business area requiring smart, innovative, and self-sufficient, hands-on leaders to work closely with sales, trading, and quants.

As the business continues to grow, we are driving efficiency and scale, partnering closely with business stakeholders to anticipate opportunities for further innovation and automation. Our team in New York requires a senior technology leader to work closely with business stakeholders and shape our platform strategy in alignment with both global and local needs. Our priorities are to efficiently onboard new products for our clients, providing a seamless integration with our connectivity, pricing, document generation, and trade capture systems. This is an opportunity to build effective relationships with stakeholders, influence technology strategy, and make an impact on business revenue targets by better servicing clients.

Reflecting the global nature of our business and systems, this department is distributed between New York, London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Budapest. We have a strong development team in New York where many of our senior business sponsors are also located. We are also active in many out of work activities both socially and volunteering our time through various firm sponsored initiatives.

Qualifications
  • You will have a track record of collaborating with business stakeholders and desk heads.
  • You will have strong product knowledge of equity derivatives, structured products, and OTCs.
  • You will be an experienced leader and solution architect with a successful delivery track record.
  • You will have a background in hands-on development and keen to get hands-on as needed.
  • You are active in coaching, mentoring, and reviewing others' work (design reviews/pull requests).
  • You can demonstrate successful, iterative delivery to meet business driven KPIs.
  • You will encourage innovation and set technical guardrails for the development team.
  • You will help develop the technology strategy within the department globally.
  • You will help implement and ensure the team follows agreed SDLC best practices.

  • Globally distributed n-tier platform deployed across Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, and New York
  • Utilization of the latest Firm technologies including Treadmill PaaS, Splunk-based LaaS and Service Discovery

Skills required (essential):

  • Experience in sales and trading platforms in Equities / FX / Fixed Income / Derivatives domain, ideally structured products.
  • Experience with application integration, software design patterns, frameworks, unit testing, automated testing, performance / memory analysis, and n-tier service-oriented architecture.
  • Experience of Agile development techniques and a deep understanding of systems engineering, build and release management principles including continuous integration and continuous delivery.
  • Practical Experience building Java Applications. Specifically, Spring Boot Applications.
  • Test-Driven Development (TDD) experience.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $195,000 and $275,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
