Middle Georgia State University (MGA), a multi-campus, baccalaureate and graduate degree granting public institution, is the most affordable public state university in Georgia. Job Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, Business and Operations, this position assumes overall responsibility for the college's controllership functions, including directs, coordinates, and oversees various financial, accounting, and treasury operations; establishes financial policies and standards; directs and oversees the operations of the Bursars Office, Accounting Services Office (including accounts payable and travel and expense), and Procurement Office.
Responsibilities
Works Collaboratively to Collect Data and Prepare Various Financial-Related Reports (45%) -
Maintains the overall integrity of the financial records and internal control environment of the university while limiting the financial risk
Directs preparation of all internal and external financial statements and supporting schedules for all purposes including audit requirements
Submits the annual financial reports of the university
Serves as the main point of contact for all required audits and financial reporting
Represents both the internal and external community regarding financial matters
Oversees the general accounting function of the university, including monthly closeout procedures, yearly closeout procedures, billing of grant expenditures, and day-to-day operations
Responsible to understand, support, and carry out the universitys mission, vision, and values and comply with mandates and regulations of government and accrediting bodies.
Interprets and implements policies and procedures, while assuring compliance with federal, state, and local board policies, regulations, and laws
Prepares financial data for the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) Survey.
Prepares the 990-T.
Prepares nonresident alien tax reporting.
Reports financial data to the University System Office, as needed.
Coordinates and Supervises the Work Staff (30%) -
Provides leadership and supervision on behalf of fiscal affairs for all campus locations, including the compilation and monitoring of revenue, expenditures, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cashiering, and general ledger functions
Screens, interviews, coaches, and provides leadership, direction, and motivation to direct staff; appraises performance; provides performance feedback; takes corrective actions and oversees training and development of staff
Performs a Variety of Related Duties (20%) -
Prepares and reviews journal entries.
Approves monthly bank reconciliations.
Prepares wire transfers.
Assists students and parents, when necessary, with student account and financial-related issues.
Administers Security for Financial and Banking Applications (5%) -
Administers security for the University's instance of GeorgiaFIRST Financials.
Administers security for the University's instance of OneUSG HCM.
Administers security for the University's operating bank account.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field
Required Experience
More than five years of financial reporting experience, preferably in a higher education setting.
Experience must include at least 3 years in a management level position
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Certified Public Accountant (CPA or CPA Candidate), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or similar active licensure is highly desired.
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.

Knowledge of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated (OCGA).
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines.
