The Executive Director (ED), North America Insights Analytics & Commercial Operations reports to the VP Global Insights Analytics & Commercial Operations (GIACO) and is a critical member of the NA Regional Leadership Team and Organization. The ED will have a dotted reporting line to the Sr. Vice President North America Commercial and will be part of the NA Leadership Team. The ED will lead a team that supports multiple in-line disease areas within North America across several analytics and operations functions and will also work cross functionally with the US Business Units and their respective leadership teams.

The ED will lead a team of over 40 professionals within four sub-teams that include Forecasting/Market Research, Commercial Operations, Marketing Operations and Commercial Field Training. The role is critical to the success of the three existing business units in North America and will be pivotal in supporting the analytics, design and implementation of the Go to Market Model in at least three additional Business Units as the pipeline continues to evolve.

The ED will also ensure that there is strong collaboration with their GIACO Global and International counter-parts and team members.

The location of this position is in Boston, MA in the US Headquarters which is located in the Seaport area.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Will be the single point of contact and strategic partner with Sr. VP North America Commercial and will ensure alignment of all NA Insights Analytics & Commercial Operations resources to regional priorities and a key member of the NA Leadership Team.
  • Leads NA Insights Analytics and Commercial Operations team to ensure insightful market and customer landscaping as well as sales and marketing operational implementation effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Leads Forecasting/Analytics, Market Research, Commercial Operations, Marketing Operations and Field Training teams in support of delivering on the NA objectives across multiple in-line disease areas.
  • Enhances analytics capabilities within team to support NA business in identifying opportunities to successfully support the business as a strategic partner.
  • Leads team in supporting existing businesses and new launches for the NA Region including pre-launch analytics such as market landscape, customer targeting, patient analytics and segmentation as well as launch implementation and tracking such as omnichannel analytics, dashboards, field KPIs and incentives.
  • Oversees HCP, Patient and Payer Market research to drive actionable insights to support current and future disease areas.
  • Ensures use of appropriate analytics (data, modeling) behind LRP and LE forecasts for all NA inline and near term launches, supporting high accuracy forecasts for the business and BSMO.
  • Understands Vertex business model, multiple disease areas, growth drivers, and supports creation of resourcing recommendations.
  • Collaborates on ad hoc business cases.
  • Strengthens field teams through skills, knowledge, business-oriented IC plans, field force sizing and field force effectiveness analyses.
  • Collaborates and aligns to drive business goals.
  • Identifies future capabilities for novel business models to enable success in new disease areas.
  • Works effectively with Legal, Medical, Human Resource and Regulatory colleagues to achieve efficient and effective plans.
  • As a people manager within the organization, may have financial accountabilities and human resource responsibilities for assigned staff.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, finance, quantitative major required. Advanced Degree/Masters and/or MBA in related field/majors desirable.
  • Typically requires 10 years experience in Commercial Pharmaceutical organization and/or Strategy/Management Consulting or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in leading large multi-functional team of Commercial Operations professionals.
  • Prior successful management of vendors and consultants.
  • Experience with commercial drug launches, preferably in specialty.
  • Experience in working within a matrix organization.

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong leadership qualities; demonstrated ability to lead, build and develop direct, indirect and cross-functional teams.
  • Deep working knowledge of US Commercial Pharmaceutical Industry and the role that Commercial Operations plays within the organization.
  • Experience in leading some combination of Forecasting, Market Research, Field Operations, Marketing Operations and Field training teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop innovative solutions, understands how to do the research to uncover missing information, and enjoys the challenge of being a solution architect.
  • Leverages relationships, data, analytics and strategic mind-set in all aspects of supporting the NA commercial organization.
  • Work effectively with internal stakeholders, external experts and support partners to assimilate leading insights to ensure in-line brands are successfully supported.
  • Ability to work across disease areas and multiple Business Units.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and make sound market access recommendations.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage ambiguity; can successfully cope with change, shift gears comfortably, decide and act without having the total picture.
  • Exhibits outstanding written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively write and deliver presentations to professionals at all levels within Vertex.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to negotiate internally/externally often at higher levels and beyond.
  • Compliance mindset, knowledge and appreciation of the regulatory and compliance pharma landscape.
