EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION AT HCI

kpCompanies is leading the search for a seasoned and community-centric Executive Director for Healthy Community Initiative (HCI). The ideal candidate for the position of HCI Executive Director is a strategic and enterprise-wide thinker, an effective communicator with high integrity and passion for HCI's mission, a collaborative decision-maker skilled at building consensus, who works well with staff and Board, understands and values diversity, and builds strong relationships. The candidate will amplify the work of others, has a credible voice and good self-awareness (humility), possesses financial acumen (including fundraising and nonprofit management) plus knowledge and experience in Education/Human Development/Human Services, and is committed to improving systems so that they work better for children, youth and their families in Rice County.

ABOUT HCI

Healthy Community Initiative (HCI) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1992 by community leaders in Northfield, Minnesota who wanted to create a supportive climate where all youth can thrive. This successful effort has grown over the years to include Faribault and communities in Minnesota's Rice County. HCI works at system and community-wide levels to support over thirty high-impact initiatives. The organization's mission is to cultivate collaborative communities in Rice County that support, value, and empower youth.

HCI identifies needs, builds coalitions to develop and run programs, writes grants, tracks data, leads evaluation work, and administers grants. To date, HCI has helped bring in more than $20 million from outside the community to benefit youth and families in Rice County. HCI's unique service model has gained national recognition.

POSITION SUMMARY

The HCI Executive Director oversees the work of HCI and its staff. In partnership with the Board of Directors and in collaboration with the HCI leadership team, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall direction of the organization, its fiscal health, and financial oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads the development of infrastructure and implements local programs for youth and families, including collective impact initiatives that improve outcomes for children and youth
  • Promotes and communicates HCI's mission and vision to both internal and external audiences
  • Oversees policy and fiscal operations, including budget planning, audits, grant management, and regulatory compliance, in collaboration with the Treasurer and Finance Committee
  • Sets strategies and leads efforts to meet fundraising goals in partnership with the Board of Directors
  • Builds effective relationships with staff, community and business stakeholders, nonprofit and education partners, and individuals
  • Champions the use of data-driven approaches and technology to enhance efficiency and impact
  • Collaborates with the Board of Directors and committees to ensure strong governance and accountability
  • Identifies opportunities for innovation and strategic partnerships to expand HCI's reach and impact
  • Recruits, develops, mentors, and retains a high-performing staff

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Business, or related)
  • 5 years of proven leadership/supervisory experience
  • Minimum 3 years of proven experience in fundraising, fiscal management, and budget oversight
  • Demonstrated success in managing teams and building collaborative partnerships with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience leading data-driven programming and utilizing technology to improve operations
  • Strong track record of effective communication, both written and verbal
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors and committees
  • Committed to leading work that improves the lives of children and youth in Rice County, MN

Equity and Salary Disclosure

We believe in practices that create real equity and pay parity regardless of background or identity. We freely discuss compensation with all qualified candidates the first time we interview them. The expected salary range is $140,000-$200,000, depending on qualifications.
