ABOUT THINK DIGNITY

For seventeen years, Think Dignity (TD) has been dedicated to advancing basic dignity for people experiencing homelessness through innovative and effective programming, legal services, and advocacy. Our work fills essential service gaps that other organizations are unable to offer or need help providing, delivers legal assistance that opens pathways for people to move beyond homelessness, and serves as a respected voice that educates the public and policymakers on issues related to unhoused individuals and sound policies that can move the needle.

TD carries out its work with an annual budget of approximately $1M. It is led by a nine-member board of directors and a core staff of 7 dedicated individuals that advance its work. You can learn more about us at thinkdignity.org.

OVERVIEW OF THE JOB

The Executive Director is an experienced and inspiring nonprofit leader with the vision, expertise, and passion for furthering the mission of TD – an organization poised for growth. This leader fully understands the impediments to housing security including the legal challenges facing unhoused people, as well as issues of oppression and trauma relating to people of color and other marginalized individuals. The Executive Director is an experienced fundraiser who has a deep understanding of how to lead and manage all aspects of a mission-driven nonprofit organization in a fiscally responsible and compassionate manner. A proven collaborator and change agent, this leader knows how to work effectively with diverse stakeholders including board and staff members, leaders of allied organizations, individual donors, public agency partners and contractors, and grantmakers. Dedicated to the cause and confident in their abilities, the Executive Director is poised to advance this important work.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic and Collaborative Leadership

  • Stewarding change through visionary and strategic work that builds upon the integrity and quality of the existing efforts to achieve an even greater impact.
  • Communicating with public and private partners to ensure the greatest expectations of T.D. programs are continually met or exceeded.
  • Working with existing and potential partners to identify and launch new efforts for advancing the work.
  • Building a positive workplace culture that fosters cohesion, innovation, and growth among diverse staff and volunteers.
  • Engaging the staff and board in transparent and supportive conversations that energize the team and produce new strategies for approaching the work.

Fundraising and External Relations

  • Fostering relationships with foundations, corporations, government agencies, and individuals, to promote the work of TD and to secure resources for its work.
  • Regularly engaging the elected officials and members of the public in conversations that raise awareness of the issues facing people experiencing homelessness and posit solutions for addressing them.
  • Raising the visibility of TD through networking, public speaking, promotional activities, and integrated media that inspires engagement.
  • Actively recruiting board members and volunteers to engage in the work.

Management

  • Operating with integrity, transparency, and accountability at all times with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Overseeing the financial and operational activities of the organization in collaboration with the board and support staff.
  • Providing ongoing strategic recommendations to the board based on new programmatic and funding opportunities, trends in the field, staff input/expertise, creativity, financial analysis, and risk assessment.
  • Working closely with the board to ensure that programmatic, fiduciary, and legal compliance responsibilities are fulfilled transparently and responsibly.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year

Willingness to travel:

  • 25% (Preferred)
