Overview

501 Commons, one of the leading nonprofit Management Support Organizations in the United States, is seeking an inclusive, business savvy Executive Director. 501 Commons provides a wide range of management support services to more than 2,000 mostly nonprofit organizations, including 1,000 client engagements with organizations in the Pacific Northwest including many based in BIPOC communities. The organization supports the following primary functions for the nonprofit sector through consulting and provision of other technical assistance and resources: Financial Services; Technology Services, including IT infrastructure, data solutions, and cybersecurity; Human Resources; and Management Consulting / Leadership Development. The new Executive will manage an annual budget of nearly $5M, with 45 staff.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will inherit a 501(c)3 organization with 45 staff, a budget of nearly $5M, and a very strong reputation. The new ED will succeed long-time leader Nancy Long and have an eight-person management team. Key responsibilities include:

  • Organizational Assessment & Strategic Plan: Develop an objective assessment of the financial and operational sustainability of 501 Commons' service lines.
  • Strengthen Business Development: Adjust and strengthen current business development activities to bolster the organization's financial position.
  • Increase Board Engagement: Work with the board to develop greater engagement focused on strategies for organizational success.
  • Community and External Relationships: Build and develop connections with community organizations, leaders, and donors.
  • Strengthen the Organization: Build trust with staff members and establish collaborative working relationships.
  • Essential Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

    • At least eight years of executive level experience, preferably at a similar nonprofit organization.
    • Demonstrated success in business development, ideally in the nonprofit sector.
    • Strong business management skills, including financial analysis and management of multiple lines of business.
    • Experience with responsibility for human resources in an organization.
    • Demonstrated experience evaluating and managing organizational systems.
    • A track record of collaborative leadership and inclusivity among organizational staff.
    • Track record of leading and managing a diverse workforce.
    • Demonstrated experience managing a hybrid and remote workforce.
    • A college degree, preferably in public, nonprofit or business administration or management.

    Job Requirements

    • Ability to travel locally and nationally.
    • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

    Compensation

    $160,000-$180,000 depending on experience. Benefits include 26 days PTO, 100% coverage of employee medical, dental and vision insurance, 401k with a discretionary 1% annual employer contribution, and relocation assistance available as needed.
