The Executive Director will spearhead initiatives to expand our recreational offerings, strengthen partnerships with local stakeholders, and advocate for the importance of active living in enhancing community vitality. Position Summary:

The Executive Director assumes the role of top leadership at Midcoast Recreation Center, overseeing all aspects of the organization's management and operations. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for driving MRC towards the fulfillment of its mission, strategic objectives, and financial goals.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with MRC's mission, values, and goals.
  • Provide visionary leadership to drive operational excellence and sustainable growth.
  • Conduct regular strategic planning sessions with the Board and key stakeholders to review organizational goals and priorities.
  • Program Development and Management

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of sports, fitness, and recreational programs to meet community needs.
  • Ensure programs are evidence-based, culturally responsive, and aligned with best practices in recreation management.
  • Ensure consistent quality of excellence across all programs.
  • Staff Development and Management

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to staff, fostering a culture of professional growth, innovation, and excellence.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, prioritizing the recruitment and retention of diverse talent.
  • Enhance and promote a positive organizational culture by encouraging open communication, collaboration, and mutual respect among staff members.
  • Manage multiple departments and oversee HR functions, ensuring effective coordination and integration of departmental activities.
  • Define and implement a formal mentorship program to support new and junior staff members.
  • Develop clear pathways for career advancement and growth within the organization.
  • Implement a standardized performance evaluation process with clearly defined goals and metrics for all staff members.
  • Membership Management

  • Oversee the management of recurring patronage, ensuring a seamless and positive experience for all community members.
  • Financial Management

  • Handle financial duties such as payroll, budgeting, and financial reporting, ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency within the organization.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to develop and manage MRC's budget, ensuring financial accountability.
  • Implement regular audits and reviews of financial processes and procedures to enhance transparency and accountability.
  • Fundraising and Resource Development

  • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to secure financial support for the organization's programs and initiatives.
  • Cultivate relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, foundations, and government agencies to diversify funding sources and maximize revenue streams.
  • Prepare compelling grant proposals, solicitation letters, and other fundraising materials to communicate the organization's mission and impact effectively.
  • Plan and execute fundraising events, campaigns, and donor cultivation activities to engage current and prospective supporters.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and staff to set fundraising goals, track progress, and ensure alignment with the organization's strategic priorities.
  • Steward existing donors and sponsors through regular communication, recognition, and acknowledgment of their contributions.
  • Monitor fundraising trends, donor preferences, and best practices in nonprofit development to inform strategic decision-making and optimize fundraising efforts.
  • Develop targeted fundraising campaigns and events to appeal to different donor segments and increase donor participation and giving levels.
  • Data Capture Systems Development and Maintenance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust data capture systems and processes, conducting quarterly evaluations to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Implement technology solutions and data management tools to streamline data collection and analysis, enhancing decision-making capabilities.
  • Provide training and support to staff members to ensure they have the skills and resources needed to effectively use data to inform their work and drive organizational performance.
  • Community Engagement and Partnerships

  • Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with community organizations, government agencies, schools, and other stakeholders to maximize impact and reach.
  • Serve as an advocate for healthy living and community building, representing MRC at public events, conferences, and media engagements.
  • Develop more comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategies that include targeted communication plans for different stakeholder groups.
  • Organizational Governance

  • Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to set strategic priorities, monitor organizational performance, and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to the Board, engaging them in decision-making processes and fostering a culture of transparency and accountability.
  • Qualifications:

  • Entrepreneurial spirit and self-starter mentality, with the ability to identify opportunities and take initiative.
  • Visionary leader who can develop and execute strategies to scale the organization's impact and reach.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit management, recreational or related field, with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Experience with digital tools and technology solutions in a nonprofit setting.
  • Knowledge of risk management practices and compliance standards.
  • Experience in marketing, communications, or public relations.
  • Experience in volunteer management and engagement.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing rural families and communities.
  • Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation, preferably in recreation and sports programming.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including funders, government agencies, and community-based organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to articulate a compelling vision and advocate for organizational priorities.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of achieving results in a complex environment.
  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $90,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
